The Structural Engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for projects including bridges and other transportation structures.They will work on plans and designs of structural engineering projects such as bridges, highway interchanges, roadway reconstruction, railroad infrastructure and public spaces. Provides resources and schedules in response to specified completion dates and technical applications. Prepares proposals and cost estimates and evaluates all project progress and recommends changes, if needed, in final procedures.Your Key ResponsibilitiesPerforms complex engineering design tasks on assigned projectsResponsible for the review and sealing of own projects or the work of the othersManages the design and construction of projects, and provides structural engineering inputManages and leads other team members while working on projectsConducts quality assurance and quality control on structural design elements and projectsPrepares construction contract documents, project proposals, change orders, plans and reportsPerforms calculations using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer softwareAttends client/contractor/stakeholder meetings to gain a better understanding of client’s goalsRecognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actionsMonitors own work and that of project team to ensure budgets and schedules are being metTrains less experienced team members in day-to-day activities including routine technical design, processing and company proceduresUtilizes relevant software programs to prepare exhibits and complex working drawingsPerforms other duties of a similar nature and level as assignedYour Capabilities and CredentialsThorough understanding of all phases of project document productionThorough understanding of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictionsProficient in Microstation and other relevant design softwareKnowledgeable in the fundamentals of finite-element analysis (FEA) and how FEA can be applied to complex structural engineering problemsProficient in Microsoft (MS) Office SuiteAbility to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agenciesAbility to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovationAbility to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues and solutions to othersAbility to create and interpret sketches, drawings, and various structuresEducation and ExperienceEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering required, Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred.Licenses/Certifications: Licensed Professional Engineer and Licensed Structural Engineer in Minnesota preferred.Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience is required.Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.This description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee and other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or may be changed at any time with or without notice.About StantecStantec is a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
