Experienced Software Engineer (Hybrid)

What You'll Do As an Experienced Software Engineer at Principal, you’ll work with engineers to lead the modernization of our technology and enable great solutions for our customers. You’ll join a community of over 4,000 engineers building products that improve lives while keeping the customer at the center of everything we do. Develop high‑quality applications for our customers. Identify and propose strategies around technical problems, communicate standards, and build consensus on solutions. Collaborate with your engineering team, architects, and business partners to improve our software. Take on increasingly complex tasks, learn quickly, and iterate based on partner feedback. Solve interesting and complex problems to deliver a positive customer experience. Experiment with new tools and practices to deliver business value in an agile organization. Continuously improve both yourself and the systems you are working on. Understand how your work fits into the larger strategy. Actively participate in pairing, mobbing, and design. Who You Are Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent work experience. 2+ years of software engineering experience. Excellent planning, organizational, problem‑solving, analytical, decision‑making, and communication skills. Desire to learn new technology and grow continuously. Skills That Will Help You Stand Out Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, GCP). Development practices including TDD, CI, and pair programming. DevOps experience. Availability for on‑call support is a plus. Work Environments This role offers in‑office and hybrid arrangements (at least three office days per week) in Des Moines, IA; Charlotte, NC; or Raleigh, NC. On‑site presence is expected at least three days a week.
