Dingell Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center located at 4646 John R St Detroit, MI 48201. To address these challenges, we employ intelligent and committed staff who take care of our customers' success as if it is their own.Responsibilities:Provides critical care nursing to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patientsObtains patient history and pertinent family historyAssesses patient and plans appropriate nursing careDocuments plan of care and care given in patient's medical recordVerifies transcription of Physician orders; no verbal orders are to be acceptedCarries out prescribed Physician orders and documents inpatient medical recordCommunicates pertinent patient data to the Charge Nurse and/or Physician as appropriateRe-assesses patient's condition and revises plans-of-care based on problems that are identifiedAdministers medications and Intravenous (IV) therapiesPossesses knowledge of actions and usual dosages of the most commonly used emergency drugs and their location on the crash cartAssesses and documents patient responses to medications that have been administeredCan interpret cardiac rhythms and their implicationsReorganizes and initiates the appropriate measures in emergencies/therapies and surgical/diagnostic procedures that must be accomplishedInstructs patients and their families regarding prescribed medications/therapies and surgical/diagnostic procedures that must be accomplishedAssesses patient/family knowledge level, implements plan of instructions, and records the patient's family's demonstrated level of understandingOperates defibrillator, electrocardiogram (EKG) machines and cardiac monitors, and other emergency technical equipmentCares for patients with Swan-Gans catheters, arterial lines and mechanical ventilatorsParticipates in discharge planningCan initiate life saving measures in the absence of PhysiciansAssures the content and correctness of a prepared report and signs the document to validate its contentMaintains a neat personal appearance and maintains professional decorumConsistently applies the VA's customer service standards, always demonstrating helpful, courteous, and respectful conductRespects patient rights, including but not limited to visual and auditory privacyMay accept a verbal order in compliance with the facility policyIntake and output of fluids assessed every shift, and more frequently if indicated by specific standard nursing drug careReviews all laboratory data and electronic medical recordsCan titrate medicationsCan be responsible for feeding tubes which are aspirated for gastric residue prior to every intermittent feed, and every four hours for continuous tube feedingsPerforms urinary catheter care by using soap and water cleaning technique every 12 hours, or as requiredEnsures that medication orders from the previous shift have been noted and either carried out or transcribed onto the medical recordsQualifications:Completion of an accredited Registered Nurse academic program (BSN or ADN)Current Registered Nurse licensure in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States or the District of ColumbiaAmerican Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certificationAmerican Health Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certificationOne (1) year of recent Critical Care RN work experience is requiredNo sponsorship availableAll candidates must be able to:Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shiftLift up to 50 lbs from floor to waistLift up to 20 lbsCarry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distancePush/pull with 30 lbs of forceAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
