PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER

Job Title: Middle School Physical Education Teacher (split between Derby North Middle School and Derby Middle School) School Year: 2026-2027 Location: Derby North Middle School and Derby Middle School Salary: $50,003 – $85,354 (based on experience and education) Job Description The Classroom Instructor creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. The instructor works closely with other staff and administration to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students. Key Responsibilities Demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy. Demonstrate knowledge of students. Select instructional goals. Demonstrate knowledge of resources. Design coherent instruction. Assess student learning. Create an environment of respect and rapport. Establish a culture for learning. Manage classroom procedures. Manage student behavior. Organize physical space. Communicate clearly and accurately with all members of the school district and community. Use questioning and discussion techniques. Engage students in learning. Provide feedback to students. Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness. Reflect on teaching. Maintain accurate records. Contribute to the school and district. Grow and develop professionally. Coordinate and supervise field trips. Assist with the activities of student organizations. Attend and assist when necessary with school events such as musical programs, athletics, student recognition ceremonies, graduation and open house. See that district policies are observed during all activities. Obtain advance approval of the principal for all activities and expenditures. Adhere to all district health and safety policies. Other duties assigned by the principal or other administrative staff, consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position. Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods. Occasionally ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials. Occasional ability to stoop, bend and reach. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round. Must work in noisy and crowded environments. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job. Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university. Current Kansas State Teaching License on file in the Central Office. Desire to continue career improvement.
