Accounting Manager

Job Description Job Summary: The Accounting Manager is responsible for management of the Accounting Department; supervises all accounting staff to ensure that credit union objectives are met. Actively supports the mission, strategic goals/direction, and the core values of the Credit Union. Participates in the development of new products, policies, and procedures and assures implementation of existing policies. Provides training and backup to various positions/duties within the Accounting Department. Responsible for ensuring exceptional service is provided to members and staff at all times. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Oversees the daily operations of the department, including but not limited to: Accounts Payable, Investment Bookkeeping, fixed asset/prepaid, wires, daily balancing and general ledger reconciliations. Assists staff with challenges and allocates staff resources as needed to maintain scheduled completion dates. Acquires resources needed to ensure completion of all assigned departmental responsibilities. Establish and meet department performance and operational initiatives. Track, document, and communicate progress in relation to established goals. Ensures that department staff is properly trained, crossed trained and maintain certifications. Defines duties and conducts performance reviews of subordinates. Manages time and attendance for accounting staff. Ensures that department functions within credit union policies. Reviews and recommends departmental procedure and/or policy changes and develops procedures for approval and implementation. Maintains Accounting software including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets and Prepaid functions. Ensures that general ledger and other accounting records are accurately maintained in a timely manner Performs month end General Ledger closing function. Performs reconciliations on all General Ledger accounts to ensure all transaction reports and financial statements are accurate. Creates various monthly and quarterly financial reports as assigned, including the NCUA 5300. Maintains the Cash Management Program to ensure sufficient and appropriate liquidity for daily operational needs. Acts as Administrator for various accounting related functions, i.e. Wisdom Software, Federal Reserve FedLine, Catalyst Corporate FCU cash management. Ensure that ATM functions are being properly performed. Maintains regular contact with other departments to obtain and convey information and/or to correct transactions. Conducts regular coaching sessions with direct reports and develops individual plan for training, improvement, growth, and career progression. Keeps Sr. Accounting & Finance Manager and CFO informed of area activities and of any significant issue or challenges. Keeps all Credit Union member and employee related business in the strictest confidence. Uphold the compliance requirement of all related federal regulations, including but not limited to; the Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering policies and procedures. Complete annual BSA training requirements as established by SunWest Federal Credit Union. Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: BA/BS Undergraduate degree in Accounting/ Finance Degree preferred. 5 years accounting and 3 years of management in a financial institution preferred. Knowledge in share draft, ACH and deposit clearing. Knowledge of back-office banking procedures. Knowledge of NCUA, Federal Reserve Bank, and Payroll Reporting. Extensive use of Excel Banking or Credit Union a plus. Physical Requirements: Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivy standards. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 lbs.
