FP&A Senior Manager or Director

We are seeking an exceptional FP&A Sr Manager or Director to serve as a strategic financial partner to a private equity backed drilling company with a substantial footprint across the aggregate quarrying and mining sectors. This role is purpose-built for a high-caliber finance leader who combines institutional-grade financial rigor with genuine fluency in applied artificial intelligence. You will work directly with executive management, the private equity owner, and external stakeholders where analytical precision, intellectual honesty, and an ownership mentality are table stakes. This is not a traditional FP&A role. The business operates in a capital-intensive, operationally complex environment where contract structures, equipment utilization, and regulatory compliance all drive margin outcomes. You will be expected to understand and communicate what happens at the customer site as well as what happens on the P&L. This position will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Planning & Analysis Leadership Own the full FP&A function: annual operating plan, multi-year strategic model, re-forecasting, and long-range planning aligned to the PE investment thesis and hold period. Build and maintain a dynamic, driver-based financial model that captures the operational realities of drilling — job-level costing, explosive materials pricing, equipment utilization rates, blast crew productivity, and contract mix (time-and-materials vs. fixed-price). Develop Key KPI metrics and reporting framework. Develop project-level profitability and drilling equipment level profitability frameworks to track margin performance across customer quarry locations and drilling rig equipment. Lead preparation of board and monthly leadership materials, investor reporting packages, and lender financial/compliance reporting. Partner with operations and sales leadership on customer pricing models. Industry-Specific Financial Oversight Analyze revenue and margin by customer quarry and drilling rig to identify mix shift opportunities and underperforming segments. Partner with Fleet management to create models for tracking equipment utilization, asset life cycles, capital replacement timing, and ROI on new equipment investments. Partner with the CFO and operations leadership on working capital management through cash forecasting modeling. AI Integration & Advanced Analytics Assist in the implementation of Oracle NetSuite and other ancillary software used in the operations of the business. Play an instrumental role in integrating new acquisitions into the current process. Build AI-assisted job costing tools that integrate field data (drill logs, shot records, equipment telematics) with financial systems to provide real-time profitability visibility at the project level. Identify and implement intelligent automation across finance workflows: automated job cost reporting, equipment utilization dashboards, anomaly detection on contract billing, and AI-enhanced cash flow forecasting. Stay current on emerging AI capabilities and translate developments into competitive advantage for the business and the ownership group. Private Equity Partnership & Value Creation Serve as a financial liaison to the private equity ownership group, delivering clear, accurate, and proactive communication on financial performance and business trajectory. Support value creation workstreams including bolt-on M&A activity, including buy-side diligence, integration modeling, operational improvement initiative, and exit preparation. Build and maintain returns-oriented financial frameworks — IRR/MOIC modeling, EBITDA bridge analysis, working capital optimization — that align with how the private equity ownership evaluates performance. Lead the preparation of monthly management meeting material and quarterly board meetings material with polished, credible financial presentations that anticipate questions from sophisticated institutional investors who will probe operational assumptions. Maintain relationships with lenders, insurance brokers, and external advisors (auditors and valuation firms) on behalf of ownership. QUALIFICATIONS 7+ years of progressive finance experience, with meaningful exposure to private equity-backed environments. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or economics (MBA and/or CPA preferred). Experience in industrial, construction, mining, energy, or heavy civil services businesses — with direct exposure to project-based or contract-driven P&L structures. Experience with ERP software implementations and AI tool implementations into finance workflows. Strong financial modeling capabilities: project costing, M&A integration, and scenario planning. Track record of performing in a high-accountability, fast-paced environment with direct exposure to C-suite and board-level stakeholders. Exceptional communication skills — written and verbal — with the ability to distill complex operational and financial analysis into crisp, actionable insights for demanding audiences.
