Position Summary Under the direction of the Dean, Department Chair or Program Director, the Adjunct Faculty Member provides academic instruction for assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses. The position is located in Thousand Oaks and is classified as adjunct, exempt, part‑time with an hourly rate of $32–$34.50. Adjunct faculty work independently and may teach in classroom, lab or online settings across the university’s campus. Essential Duties Deliver instruction through lecture, lab, or performance courses, developing students’ cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher‑order thinking through assignments and activities. Advise and instruct students on programs of study, alternative higher education options, lifelong learning resources, and study skills; refer them to support services and resources as appropriate. Observe and evaluate student performance against course objectives and learning outcomes, providing timely feedback on assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations. Plan and organize instruction based on approved course outlines and student learning outcomes to maximize learning and align with departmental and university missions. Maintain accurate records of enrollment, attendance, academic progress, curriculum, and learning outcomes; prepare and submit related data and reports promptly. Evaluate and select instructional materials—textbooks, manuals, software, tools—in collaboration with discipline faculty and order them through campus bookstore procedures. Perform related duties as assigned. Knowledge Of Current theory and practice within the subject discipline. Principles and best practices of effective teaching. Ability To Demonstrate thorough knowledge in the subject field or discipline. Deliver course curricula in various learning styles. Exhibit sensitivity to diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of university students. Exhibit sensitivity to the needs of students with disabilities. Integrate emerging instructional delivery technologies to enhance teaching and the learning experience. Maintain professional standards that protect student confidentiality. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with tact, patience, and courtesy. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a master’s degree from a graduate institution of recognized standing or equivalent experience and professional recognition. Preferred Qualifications None. Physical Abilities Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment; speaking to exchange information, provide instruction and make presentations; sitting or standing for extended periods; pushing, pulling or lifting light objects; bending and reaching to store and/or retrieve files. Working Environment Indoor classroom environment; may include visits to various classroom sites on campus. Hiring Range $32–$34.50 per hour.
