Assistant Project Manager - Travel required

Position Overview We are seeking an organized, proactive Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support delivery of construction projects across government/federal and commercial facilities. The APM will assist project managers and field personnel in planning, coordinating field operations, managing schedules and budgets, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This role requires hands-on construction experience, strong communication skills, and the flexibility to travel to job sites as projects demand (up to 50%). Key Responsibilities Support project managers in developing and maintaining project schedules, budgets, and progress reports for government/federal and commercial projects. Coordinate and communicate daily with field managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure work is progressing on schedule and to quality standards. Assist with procurement, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and invoice review to maintain project financial control. Conduct site visits to monitor construction and HVAC installation, ensure compliance with specifications, safety standards, and applicable codes; prepare site visit reports. Facilitate coordination between trades, commissioning teams, and facility owners for HVAC systems, specialized hangar requirements, and public sector standards. Support permitting and documentation for federal and local regulatory requirements; maintain project records and closeout documentation. Track and report project risks and issues, propose mitigation actions, and elevate to project managers as needed. Participate in client meetings, walkthroughs, and project reviews; represent the company professionally with government and institutional clients. Assist with onboarding and supervision of field personnel when acting as field manager delegate; ensure adherence to safety and quality procedures. Coordinate travel logistics for site assignments and maintain responsiveness while on the road. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent construction experience. 3+ years of experience in construction project support or assistant PM roles; demonstrated experience with government/federal or commercial, or hangar projects strongly preferred. Hands-on experience with HVAC projects, installations, commissioning, and systems coordination. Proven field management experience or frequent coordination with field managers and site teams. Strong knowledge of construction processes, scheduling (MS Project or Primavera a plus), budgeting, change management, and submittal/RFI workflows. Familiarity with federal contracting requirements, K-12/college facility standards, and public-sector procurement or compliance expectations preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to prepare clear reports and interface with clients and regulators. Proficient with project management and collaboration tools (Procore, Prolog, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office suite). Valid drivers license and willingness to travel up to 50% to project sites; ability to work in field conditions and occasionally lift/move materials if required. OSHA 30 certification, safety training, and/or trade certifications preferred.
