Plant Reliability Technician — Refrigeration & PLC Systems

Shift: PM shift, 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM When your shift begins, the plant is depending on you to keep production moving. You’ll walk the floor, confirm utilities are stable, scan dashboards, listen for the telltale signs of wear, and jump in where needed. From reducing downtime on processing lines to dialing in refrigeration systems, you’re the one who ensures that every cube meets spec and every asset performs as designed. What you’ll do Execute preventive maintenance on production and facility assets; diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment failures to minimize downtime. Operate processing equipment as needed to stabilize operations and improve throughput. Read and apply blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical manuals for accurate maintenance and repair. Support water plant operations and utilities, including Ice Makers, Compressors, Heat Exchangers, Ammonia and Freon Refrigeration Systems, Pumps, Condensers, and related components. Verify equipment readiness and material availability before each production run. Manage ordering and inventory of replacement parts and service tools to ensure safe, reliable plant performance. Check product quality at the source—visually inspect ice for clarity, cube size, and hole spacing. Apply root‑cause analysis and implement countermeasures; perform basic data analysis to pinpoint failure modes. Handle minor facility and grounds work (lightbulb changes, painting, small structural repairs). Coach teammates on safe and proper use of tools and general facility maintenance techniques. Assist with bagging operations as needed; occasionally help direct production workflow based on equipment output. Perform basic electrical and electronic system maintenance independently. Identify opportunities for process improvement and elevate recommendations to the Operations Manager. Complete safety checklists as required by the Safety/Risk Management Department. Proactively identify, monitor, and correct industrial health and safety issues. Apply advanced electrical and chemical safety protocols at all times. Essential Mental Functions Read and interpret English safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedures. Adapt rapidly to changing conditions, alarms, and emergencies with unimpaired coordination and fast reflexes. Respond promptly and appropriately to evolving operating conditions. You may assist with directing workflow; maintain a professional demeanor with vendors, suppliers, and contractors, and demonstrate commitment to Reddy Ice’s values and priorities. Qualifications Required 6–8 years of experience in industrial maintenance. One of the following certifications: Journeyman Certification/License in Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical (State Certifying Authority) Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator (Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association) Certified Maintenance Technician Level III (International Maintenance Institute) Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals) Preferred 1.8+ years of experience in industrial maintenance. Completion of two of the following certifications: Programmable Logic Controller Certification (Electronics Technicians Association International) Journeyman Certification/License in Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical (State Certifying Authority) Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association)Certified Maintenance Technician Level III (International Maintenance Institute) Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals) High School diploma or GED Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Work spans office areas and all plant environments, including exposure to extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, ammonia, and heavy moving equipment. Nights and weekends are part of the schedule with occasional travel. Overtime may be required. Expect a fast‑paced, rapidly changing setting requiring stress management, collaborative relationship‑building, and sound reasoning. Detail orientation and organizational skill are essential. Must be able to use hand and heavy electric tools and lift at least 45 lbs.
