Material Handler

About the Role

Gramazon is seeking a Production Material Handler - Assembly to serve as the internal material runner for processor packaging and assembly operations. The role keeps production lines supplied with the correct packaging inventory, labels, components, cartons, consumables, and other approved materials while maintaining clear product/SKU identity, controlled line-side quantities, and orderly return of unused materials.

This role begins at the production-side handoff from Supply Chain. The Warehouse Lead and Supply Chain Material Handlers control warehouse picking and staging; the Production Material Handler accepts properly identified materials at the designated production handoff point, delivers them to the correct line or team, supports line-side replenishment, and returns unused or excess materials through the approved process. The role does not own warehouse inventory policy, production scheduling, or line quality release.

Core Accountabilities

• Safety : Move packaging and production materials safely through manufacturing areas using approved routes, carts, lifting methods, PPE, and line-access rules.
• Quality : Protect packaging-component, label, SKU, lot/batch, and line identity so the correct material reaches the correct production order without mix-up or damage.
• Delivery / Throughput: Keep production lines supplied before material shortages create avoidable line starvation, downtime, or uncontrolled emergency movement.
• Cost / Productivity : Control line-side quantities, minimize excess WIP, unnecessary movement, damaged components, searching, and avoidable material waste.
• Compliance : Maintain controlled identity and movement of cannabis-related packaging/labels and other regulated production materials and follow required production, traceability, and line-clearance procedures.
• People : Coordinate continuously with the Processor Assistant Manager, Packaging Assembly Team Leader, Machine Operator Leads,Supply Chain handoff personnel, and operators to anticipate and respond to line-side material needs.

Essential Responsibilities

• Review the approved production schedule, active work orders, packaging specifications, and line priorities at the start of the shift with the Processor Assistant Manager or designated line leadership.
• Identify packaging components, labels, cartons, consumables, and other materials required by each active or upcoming production order and communicate shortages early.
• Receive staged materials from the Supply Chain handoff point only after identity, quantity, status, and destination are clear and the warehouse handoff is complete.
• Deliver the correct materials to the correct Paxiom, packaging assembly, or other assigned production line without mixing SKUs, brands, labels, packaging configurations, or production orders.
• Maintain disciplined line-side staging and replenish materials in quantities that support flow without creating uncontrolled excess WIP or clutter.
• Respond to line-lead and team-leader material calls within established priorities and communicate immediately when requested materials are unavailable, incorrect, short, damaged, or not yet released.
• Maintain physical identification of opened, partial, unused, excess, damaged, obsolete, or questionable packaging inventory during production.
• Remove empty packaging/dunnage and support organized line-side 5S without disposing of controlled labels, cannabis product, or regulated material outside approved procedures.
• Return unused or excess packaging components to the designated Supply Chain return/handoff location with item identity, quantity, condition, and status clearly documented or communicated.
• Support line clearance and changeover by removing prior-order packaging/components from the production area and ensuring materials for the next order are not introduced until authorized by line leadership.
• Assist with controlled movement of completed cases/finished goods from the production line to the designated finished-goods handoff/staging point when directed, without independently accepting Supply Chain custody or changing inventory status.
• Maintain required internal movement, count, issue/return, or replenishment records when assigned and trained.
• Do not substitute materials, labels, packaging components, or quantities when the approved requirement cannot be met; stop and escalate the shortage or mismatch.
• Maintain safe, clear aisles and travel routes and use only approved carts, pallet jacks, ladders/step stools, or other material-handlingequipment for which the employee is trained.
• Provide end-of-shift handoff on open material shortages, staged items, partial/return material, unresolved discrepancies, and upcoming line needs.

Performance Expectations

Performance will be evaluated through a balanced operating framework emphasizing Safety, Quality, Delivery/Throughput, Cost/Productivity, Compliance, and People.

• Production line-starvation minutes attributable to packaging/material replenishment.
• Correct material / label / packaging configuration delivered to the correct line and work order.
• On-time replenishment and response to authorized material requests.
• Issue/return count and handoff accuracy for packaging inventory.
• Line-side WIP discipline, 5S, aisle safety, and changeover/line-clearance support.
• Packaging damage, misplacement, mix-up, and avoidable material waste.
• Timely escalation of shortages and mismatches before they become production downtime.
• Attendance, communication, responsiveness, and standard-work adherence.

Role Expectations & Decision Authority

The Processor Assistant Manager owns daily processor-floor execution and production priorities. Line leads/team leaders own work-

center execution and verification of the correct setup. The Production Material Handler - Assembly owns internal movement and line-

side availability of approved packaging materials after Supply Chain handoff.

The role is an execution and service position, not a substitute for Supply Chain inventory control or production leadership. When the

required material is missing or inconsistent, the correct response is to stop, preserve identity, and escalate rather than improvise.

• Deliver and replenish approved materials to active production lines according to established production priorities.
• Stop material movement when item/SKU, label, packaging configuration, quantity, status, destination, or work-order association is uncertain.
• Request restaging, recount, or clarification from Supply Chain/line leadership when handoff information does not agree with the physical material.
• Return excess/unused material through the approved handoff process and maintain clear identity/status during the return.
• Do not independently change production priorities, product specifications, label content, packaging configuration, inventory adjustments, METRC records, or approved work orders.
• Do not pull uncontrolled material directly from warehouse inventory or bypass the Warehouse Lead/Supply Chain handoff to resolve a line shortage.

Qualifications

Required

• Must be at least 21 years of age and eligible to work in Michigan's regulated cannabis industry.
• Warehouse, material-handling, manufacturing, production support, line-feeding, kitting, or comparable internal-logistics experience preferred.
• Strong attention to SKU, label, packaging-component, quantity, and work-order identity.
• Ability to organize multiple material requests and respond quickly without sacrificing accuracy.
• Ability to count accurately, use carts/scanners/basic production records as assigned, and follow standardized handoff procedures.
• Reliable attendance, communication, and ability to work continuously on the production floor.

Preferred

• Cannabis processing, packaging, CPG, food, pharmaceutical, automotive, or high-volume manufacturing material-handling experience.
• Experience with line-side replenishment, supermarket/min-max systems, kitting, Kanban, milk-run/internal runner, or point-of-use material flow.
• Experience with barcode scanning, ERP/WMS/inventory systems, 5S, line clearance, and standardized work.
• Familiarity with regulated labels, packaging controls, cannabis traceability, or METRC-supported production.
