Laboratory Manager - Southfield, MI Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Responsible for planning, coordinating, evaluating, and supervising all technical and operational activities and staff in the laboratory, ensuring highest quality, safety, and integrity while operating efficiently and economically. Pay Range Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation. Responsibilities Plan, assign and direct work in the laboratory. Serve as liaison with other areas as needed. Mentor and support direct reports, identify and implement training programs for supervisory skill development. Define, coordinate and monitor quality assurance programs and supervise activities of the department Quality Coordinator/Representative. Ensure quality control and compliance procedures are followed; keep QC reports up to date. Oversee plans and preparations for inspections. Oversee staffing of all personnel in the laboratory. Maintain quality staffing through interviewing, hiring, training, and performance evaluation. Identify future needs in terms of staff, equipment, and facilities; submit appropriate documentation for procurement. Review test performance, drive process improvements and project management; prepare and submit required reports to meet deadlines. Manage test database and ensure departmental SOPs and the database accurately reflect current processes. Coordinate R&D activities as they relate to operations and participate on subspecialty, corporate, and business unit committees. Develop annual budget and manage department costs and resources to adhere to budget. Resolve problems through interaction with clients. Define, coordinate and monitor EHS programs and supervise activities of the Department Safety Coordinator. Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional and sanitary condition. Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and laboratory safety requirements. Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work practice controls as directed. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections. Other duties as assigned. This is a general description of work performed in the position. Qualifications – Required Work Experience Minimum of eight (8) years laboratory experience with at least four (4) years direct supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory. Physical and Mental Requirements Requires lifting and carrying objects: 1–10 lbs frequently; 11–25 lbs occasionally; 36–50 lbs seldom; over 50 lbs not to be lifted without assistance. Ability to sit or stand for long periods. May require use of a wide variety of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments demanding significant manual dexterity. Knowledge Comprehensive theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty. Knowledge of organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Skills Proven leadership and problem‑solving skills. Detail‑oriented; able to work independently, establish priorities and handle several tasks simultaneously for maximum efficiency. Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with employees, co‑workers and clients. Ability to handle client information confidentially. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems. Education Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related field. (Preferred) Master’s Degree. (Preferred) Licenses and Certifications ASCP Certification. (Preferred) Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
