DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES (SPECIAL ED)

Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School (PVPA) provides students with a supportive and challenging environment that is responsive to multiple learning styles, emphasizes learning through the arts, and integrates critical and creative thinking throughout the curriculum. PVPA prepares all our students for higher education through rigorous, standards-based curriculum in a nurturing, collaborative environment.

We are looking for a collaborative administrator who enjoys working with colleagues and loves working with middle and high school students. The Director of Student Services serves as PVPA's Administrator of Special Education and 504 Coordinator, and supervises School Counseling and Health Services, providing oversight and staff supervision. Under the supervision of the Head of School, the Director of Student Services is responsible for:

Global Responsibilities

1. Promoting the PVPA vision and mission within the school community and the broader community throughout the region
2. Communicating clearly and respectfully with caregivers, staff, students, and community members
3. Preserves, articulates, and represents the mission and values of PVPA
4. Fostering capacity building and collaborative decision making with inclusivity and transparency

Leadership

1. Provides direct supervision and evaluation for Academic Support Teachers, Paraprofessionals, School Counselors, School Psychologist, and School Nurse.
2. Assures compliance with all state and federal laws pertaining to students with disabilities
3. Assures that PVPA is informed and in compliance with all DESE regulations and reporting
4. Serves as District Homeless Education Liaison and District Foster Care Coordinator
5. Establishes and maintains Special Education Parent Advisory Council
6. Provides special education training for all PVPA staff
7. Maintains departmental budget, including writing and administering grants to support the Academic Support Department
8. Participates in schoolwide, administrator, and departmental meetings
9. Oversees hiring within Student Services Departments in accordance with school procedures and policies
10. Contracts with independent service providers as necessary for the provision of specially designed instruction, related services, and consultation
11. Acquires and maintains the tools, materials, and technology necessary to run effective special education programs
12. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications


The successful candidate will minimally hold an advanced degree in education or specialty field, MA DESE licensure in Moderate Disabilities 5-15, be able to pass a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting) and be computer literate. Preferred qualification include:

1. Five years of experience in a public education leadership role
2. Commitment to the belief that all students can succeed
3. Clearly demonstrated knowledge of special education law and DESE regulations as they pertain to special education and supervision and evaluation of staff
4. Certification in the Commonwealth of Mass as a Special Education Administrator, or ability to obtain within two years.

Other Information/Instructions:

Salary individually negotiated based on experience and a base of $85,000. This is a Twelve-month 260-day position that includes vacation time.
