Job Summary
Provides technical and clerical support for library operations, including cataloging, resource maintenance, and material processing. Assists with electronic resources, special collections, and reporting while supporting overall library services and initiatives.

NOTE: Job descriptions and essential functions are subject to change due to advances in technology, utilization of work force, and other factors which may impact the College's need to modify position requirements.
Part-Time 20-22 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties:
  1. Assists with day-to-day technical services operations, including acquisition, copy cataloging, interlibrary loans, assisting with the processing of library materials and periodicals and digitization and maintenance of special collections & eResources.
  2. Performs copy cataloging and maintains accurate records in statewide and local library systems. Assists in Technical Services by cataloging various types of new materials for circulation.
  3. Prepares and processes new materials for circulation, including labeling, classification, and physical readiness.
  4. Supports electronic resource maintenance by updating holdings in statewide, other share and local catalog systems, removing withdrawn materials, including discarding and disposal of withdrawn materials in accordance with library procedure.
  5. Prepares materials for special collections and electronic reserves including physical and digital items. This includes an understanding of copyright compliance for both physical resources and eRsources that pertain to the digital lending of materials and the maintenance of digital repositories.
  6. Assists with collection management activities, repair of library items an including pre-selection, de-selection, supporting the purchase order and receiving process and assisting by identifying items for special cataloging.
  7. Assists in training and providing direction to student workers in technical services functions. Supports procurement activities related to library materials, including purchase order processing and receiving.
  8. Develops and maintains procedural documentation and supports implementation of new processes and projects.
  9. Utilizes the library management system to maintain resources, run reports, and compile data for tracking and analysis and special studies as needed.
  10. Provides support to access services and frontline library operations as needed.
  11. Assists and liaisons to other library staff, library partners, college departments and college partners to support library services as needed.
  12. Participates in required training and professional development activities.
  13. Assists in special projects or performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Education/Experience:
Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and two or more years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Supervisory Experience:
This position may need to oversee student assistants and coordinate volunteers.
  • Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, professional journals, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, and to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform calculations on standard measures of American currency and weight, volume, and distance.
  • Reasoning Ability:
Ability to exercise sound judgment to interpret and carry out instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, chart, or schedule form. Ability to solve practical problems and manage a variety of variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, internet, and library software.. Within three months of hire, employee must be able to use college e-mail and other college required software, be able to navigate the library management system software, and utilize digitization tools and best practices for document preservation. Must also be able to utilize library statistic, reservation and libguide software. Should be able to assist students with connecting to the college Wi-Fi; scanning and computer printing and demonstrate how to navigate the library's online catalogue system.

This position has daily contact with State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota students, staff and faculty.
• External Contacts:
This position has routine contact with library staff from other college and university libraries, outside vendors of library resources, and the general public via phone, email, video meetings or in person.
