Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical/Surgical Telemetry Duration: 16 Weeks Shift: Day/Night Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum 2 Years License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS required; ONS certification preferred Must-Have: Telemetry interpretation skills Telemetry monitoring experience Previous charge experience preferred Ability to float to other MedSurg Oncology units Description: The unit cares for patients with all solid tumor cancers throughout their treatment journey. Staffing ratios aim for 1:4 but may extend to 1:5 depending on unit needs. Variable weekend shifts are determined by unit requirements. Floating to other medical-surgical oncology units is required. A heavy emphasis is placed on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention. The patient population consists of adults and geriatrics. Common diagnoses include breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancers. The unit provides care from diagnosis through treatment and end-of-life transitions. Key skills include accessing and managing ports, administration of chemotherapy, and managing dysrhythmias. Equipment used includes telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, and IV pumps. Interdisciplinary support is available from physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Candidates must have current acute care experience in the specialty and be actively practicing in the last 12 months.
