Engineering Manager

Eaton’s IS AER ITD Aerospace division is currently seeking an Engineering Manager. The expected annual salary range for this role is $149,000 - $219,000 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. This role requires working on‑site M-F at our Camarillo, CA location. What you’ll do: Primary Function The product design engineering manager leads a team of product design engineers responsible for the following areas: Internal research and development New product development (NPD/NPI) Sustaining engineering for ongoing production Manufacturing sourcing changes Cost out projects New business campaigns He/she is responsible for managing project engineering work from initial scoping through execution and eventual project closure and providing communication on this work to internal and external stakeholders. He/she helps coordinate all work within the scope of assigned projects, managing engineering scope change, risks, and issues working alongside program managers. This role is responsible for functional management activities including hiring, performance management, and talent development. The engineering manager will be responsible for mechanical hold down/release mechanism devices for aviation, military, and space applications, as well as support plant sustaining engineering for electrical connector product lines. Essential Functions Leads teams supporting current design, development, or legacy/sustaining product support for hold down and release mechanism products and related components used in aviation, space, industrial, and military applications. Leads engineers assigned to global, cross‑functional teams and multiple manufacturing locations to support ongoing production, new product launches, and product manufacturing transfers/sourcing across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC. Manages teams responsible for communication with customer engineering teams. Manages teams responsible for product design and documentation captured through Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), leveraging Eaton's Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. Manages teams that provide technical reviews with internal and external stakeholders. Manages teams that provide technical support to customers, suppliers, manufacturing engineers, and sales and marketing teams. Responsibilities include new and existing projects, assessing non‑recurring cost estimates (NRE), managing project scope changes, developing engineering activity schedules, and reviewing/approving technical documents/deliverables. Leads planning and specification of new product requirements, as well as detailed validation and verification plans working alongside a cross‑functional team. Leads witnessing testing of products and manages test program communication within and external to the enterprise. Leads Eaton's prototype and tooling manufacturing lab, ensuring on‑time delivery and quality of deliverables. Leads teams responsible for failure analysis including 8D, and provides guidance on root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities. Leads teams responsible for MRB review of discrepant hardware and assessment of functionality where appropriate or delegated by customers. Leads teams and sets standards for creation and management of product data in Eaton’s PLM (Enovia). Supports the assessment of jurisdiction and classification of hardware and technical data in accordance with ITAR and EAR. Responsible for talent management for his/her team including promotions, performance management, hiring, and coaching. Supports ongoing sustaining engineering for electrical connector products where/when required. Qualifications Required Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or similar, from an ABET accredited institution. Minimum 7 years of product engineering experience. Minimum 3 years of engineering management experience. Demonstrated knowledge/proficiency in talent management including hiring and development of direct reports. Leadership experience including delegation and coaching of direct reports. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship, both now and in the future. Eaton will not consider immigration sponsorship or support for this position. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, or Business Administration. More than 5 years experience in engineering management. Design knowledge of interconnect components for aviation, aerospace, and industrial markets. Experience with metallic plating/coatings and non‑metallic materials including polymers, ceramics, and glass and graphite composites. Experience using Enovia PLM software and SolidWorks CAD software. Experience in directing product launches in Best Cost Country (BCC) locations in North America. Experience in directing product launches at U.S. manufacturing locations for military or aerospace products. Additional Certifications: Lean 6‑sigma methods preferred, including DFSS/SSDD Green Belt or Black Belt, or PMP Certification. Experience leading product qualification programs for mechanical and/or electrical products. Ability to interpret and generate 3D CAD models and drawings. Knowledge of ECN/ECO processes for document change management. Ability to complete basic engineering calculations for sizing and design of mechanical components. Understanding of ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Proficiency in PDM/PLM systems for document control and workflow management. Expertise in leading teams through management of requirements and developing compliance strategy. Additional Information Strong record of leading teams to success on complex engineering programs working alongside customer technical teams. Excellent internal and external communication skills on both technical and non‑technical subjects. Negotiates customer requirements and compliance methods, aligning intracompany teams around a clearly scoped mission. Proficient in establishing collaborative and trusting working relationships within and outside the enterprise. Ability to break down complex problems into manageable pieces and lead teams through execution of related project work.
