Patient Care Associate- SICU

Job Summary The Patient Care Associate (PCA) is responsible for performing assigned patient care tasks under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). The PCA assists with patient care as delegated by the RN, documents tasks, and upholds the Patient Bill of Rights. In certain areas of assignment, upon competency, the PCA III performs the duties of a Monitor Technician. Location & Schedule City/State: Nyack, New York Work Shift: Evening (2:30PM – 11PM) Schedule: Alternate weekends, alternate work days, rotating schedule. Daily hours: 8hours. Pay period hours: 20. Hourly rate: $23.34. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Perform direct nursing tasks including taking vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, and personal hygiene needs. Collect and chart observations, report changes in patient condition to the RN, and document vital signs, measurements, nutritional and fluid intake. Assist patients with nutritional needs, feeding, mobility, turning, positioning, transfers, and ambulation. Perform phlebotomy via venous puncture, obtain lab specimens, conduct EKGs, and perform finger‑stick blood glucose testing, documenting and reporting results to the RN. Comply with hospital safety, infection control, and environmental regulations, maintaining a clean, safe environment. Perform delegated or specialized functions as educationally prepared, and may handle medication transport and retrieval only. Qualifications High School diploma or GED required. Less than 1 year of previous health‑care experience required. Certified Nurse’s Assistant, Certified Patient Care Technician, or current nursing program enrollment preferred. Experience and competence in phlebotomy and EKG preferred. Monitor Technician experience preferred for applicable assignments. Full command of the English language. Physical ability and perceptive acuity to perform patient care functions. For PCA I: Successful completion of PCA Orientation and Skills Competency Checklist within 3months. EKG, phlebotomy, and blood glucose monitoring skills. For PCA II: 1year of experience as a PCA at Montefiore Nyack Hospital and satisfactory performance appraisal. For PCA III: Must meet one of: national phlebotomy certification, preceptor training course attendance, or dysrhythmia course completion; or Assigned to TCU with NYS CNA certification. For PCA IV: 2years of PCA experience, above‑average performance appraisal (≥2.35), precepted at least 2 PCAs after preceptor training, and BLS certification within 30days.
