Outpatient Nutrition Support/Home Infusion Dietitian

Job Summary This position provides medical nutrition therapy to patients and their families, and offers consultation to the interdisciplinary care team. Responsibilities include conducting nutritional assessments, calculating diet plans, coordinating nutritional services with the patient care team, patient food services, community agency referrals, participation in case conferences, and continuity of care. The role also includes multidisciplinary team participation, department committee involvement, community outreach, and contribution to the dietetic internship program (precept interns, teach classes, develop curriculum). Key Responsibilities 45% – Coordinate the provision of medical nutrition therapy 20% – Provide nutritional counseling and education to patients and their caregivers 15% – Participate in administrative functions 15% – Provide and precept educational experience to interns and staff 5% – Promote nutrition within the medical center and community Qualifications Minimum qualifications include: Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) registered with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Commission on Dietetic Registration American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR required within 3 months of hire or upon assignment change requiring BLS Successful completion of a didactic program in dietetics with supervised practice experience approved or accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Strong academic background and applied experience in clinical nutrition Knowledge of medical nutrition therapy principles, including enteral and parenteral nutrition support Computer proficiency: word processing, presentation software, and spreadsheets Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in English Additional (Senior) qualifications: Advanced degree, masters or higher, or certification in a specialty practice area, or certificate from a specialty training program Five or more years of relevant work experience Ability to use the electronic medical record effectively for nutrition assessments Proficiency in Nutrition Care Process and ADIME charting techniques Current knowledge of specialty area Preferred Qualifications Specialty certification in the area of practice (e.g., CNSC, CSO, CDCES, CSR, CSG, CSP, CSPCC, CSOWM, CSSD, RDN-AP/RD-AP) For pediatric positions: California Children’s Services (CCS) Dietitian Paneling designation, or eligibility to obtain within one year Two or more years of relevant work experience Experience in a large teaching hospital or academic medical center Experience with electronic medical records Experience teaching and supervising dietetic interns or other students Department Overview Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) provides all food services and clinical nutrition needs for UC Davis Health Sacramento campus and its network of primary and specialty care practices in the greater Sacramento region.
