Safety Technician – Second Shift

Position Summary

The Safety Technician – Second Shift provides day-to-day safety support for second-shift manufacturing operations. This position maintains an active presence on the production floor, assists employees and supervisors with safety-related concerns, identifies unsafe conditions and behaviors, conducts inspections, assists with incident investigations, and supports implementation of the facility's Environmental, Health and Safety programs.

This is a hands-on position intended for an individual who has experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment and is interested in developing a career in occupational safety and health.

The Safety Technician will work closely with the Site Safety Specialist, EHS Manager, production supervision, maintenance, and employees to promote a safe workplace and ensure established safety procedures are followed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain a visible and active safety presence throughout second-shift manufacturing operations.
• Conduct routine safety inspections and observations throughout production, warehouse, maintenance, shipping/receiving, and other assigned areas.
• Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and communicate findings to employees, supervisors, and EHS leadership.
• Assist supervision with correcting identified safety hazards.
• Coach employees regarding safe work practices, PPE requirements, and established company safety procedures.
• Monitor employee compliance with required personal protective equipment.
• Assist with investigations involving injuries, incidents, near misses, property damage, equipment incidents, and environmental events.
• Gather photographs, employee statements, witness information, and other documentation needed for incident investigations.
• Assist with identifying contributing factors, root causes, and appropriate corrective actions.
• Complete assigned safety reports, inspection forms, and other EHS documentation accurately and on time.
• Conduct and document routine inspections of eyewash stations, emergency showers, fire extinguishers, spill-response equipment, and other safety equipment as assigned.
• Assist with employee safety orientations, toolbox talks, refresher training, and other assigned safety training.
• Observe and support compliance with safety programs including: Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Machine guarding, Powered industrial trucks/forklifts, Overhead cranes and rigging, Personal protective equipment, Respiratory protection, Hazard Communication/SDS, Hot work, Confined-space requirements, Walking-working surfaces, Emergency response procedures, Assist with monitoring contractor and visitor compliance with facility safety requirements.
• Assist with chemical inventory and Safety Data Sheet management.
• Support environmental activities including proper waste handling, spill prevention and response, stormwater protection, and general environmental housekeeping.
• Participate in emergency response activities and evacuation drills.
• Follow up on assigned corrective actions and communicate unresolved issues to EHS leadership.
• Communicate significant second-shift incidents, hazards, or safety concerns promptly to the Site Safety Specialist and/or EHS Manager.
• Participate in safety meetings and other EHS activities as assigned.
• Perform other safety and environmental duties as assigned.

Stop-Work Responsibility

All employees have a responsibility to address serious safety concerns.

The Safety Technician is expected to intervene when an unsafe condition or behavior presents an immediate risk of injury, equipment damage, environmental impact, or other significant hazard.

When an imminent or serious hazard is identified, the Safety Technician has the authority to request that the affected work be stopped and immediately notify the appropriate production supervisor and EHS leadership.

Routine operational or disciplinary decisions remain the responsibility of production management and EHS leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one year of experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, maintenance, warehousing, construction, safety, or a related environment preferred.
• Basic understanding of workplace safety practices and hazard recognition.
• Ability and willingness to learn applicable OSHA General Industry requirements and company EHS programs.
• Ability to recognize unsafe conditions and communicate concerns appropriately.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate professionally with production employees, supervisors, managers, and contractors.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to complete written reports and maintain accurate documentation.
• Ability to work independently during second-shift operations while maintaining communication with EHS leadership.
• Dependable attendance and ability to work the assigned second-shift schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred but are not required for consideration:

• Previous safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• OSHA 30-Hour General Industry training.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
• Experience with powered industrial trucks, overhead cranes, machine guarding, LOTO, or other industrial safety programs.
• Previous experience conducting workplace inspections or safety observations.
• Experience assisting with incident investigations.
• Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
• Associate degree or coursework in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Technology, or a related field.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

This position works primarily within an active industrial manufacturing environment. The employee may be exposed to noise, heat, dust, oils, chemicals, mobile equipment, powered industrial trucks, machinery, and other conditions associated with manufacturing operations.

The position requires the ability to:

• Frequently walk and stand for extended periods.
• Walk throughout manufacturing, warehouse, and outdoor areas.
• Bend, stoop, reach, and climb as necessary to conduct inspections.
• Safely navigate active production areas.
• Wear all required personal protective equipment.
• Respond promptly to incidents throughout the facility.
• Work indoors and outdoors as operational needs require.

Compensation

Starting Rate: $22.00–$23.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
