Registered Nurse (RN) - MedSurg

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse will provide competent clinical nursing care aligned with professional standards, reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care in a hospital setting by utilizing the nursing process.

Essential Duties:

Education:
- Participates in identifying and addressing personal learning needs.
- Attends educational programs based on identified learning requirements.
- Utilizes relevant patient education materials for the specific population.
- Assesses the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
- Evaluates factors affecting the ability to learn including developmental levels.
Evaluation of Care:
- Identifies expected patient outcomes and seeks guidance in revising care plans.
- Participates in discussions with the interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient care.
- Communicates essential information to ensure continuity of care.
Implementation:
- Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex health issues.
- Performs bedside point-of-care testing as necessary for patient care plans.
- Adheres to organizational and nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
- Prioritizes care in accordance with patient and family needs.
- Consults appropriate resources promptly regarding complex patient care needs.
Leadership:
- With assistance, sets goals for professional development and addresses limitations.
- Works towards unit goals and participates in performance improvement initiatives.
- Utilizes communication systems effectively and promotes cost-efficient care.
- Provides feedback to colleagues and stays informed about healthcare regulations.
- Supports a safe and clean environment for all patients and staff.
Patient Assessment:
- Recognizes and prioritizes data from complex situations for patient care.
- Incorporates physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
- Synthesizes assessment data before communicating with others.
- Considers discharge needs for patients and families.
- Fosters relationships with families to help them advocate for the patient.
Planning:
- Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
- Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in planning patient care.
- Identifies and integrates cultural and ethnic considerations in patient planning.
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex needs.
Research:
- Engages with journals and studies that may benefit practice.
- Brings ideas and inquiries for collective assessment among staff.

Skills and Experience:

Required: One (1) year of nursing experience.
Preferred: N/A

Education:

Required: Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited nursing school.
Preferred: BSN or MSN from an accredited nursing school.

Certifications & Licensure:

Required:
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification (AHA or ARC).
Preferred: N/A
