CNC Machinist

Amphenol Industrial Operations is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to support our growing manufacturing operation in Endicott, NY. The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing CNC machining equipment (specifically Tsugami Swiss Lathes with Fanuc controllers) to produce high-quality components that meet customer and engineering specifications. This role plays a key part in supporting production efficiency, quality initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts as the facility expands operations and automation capabilities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate CNC machining centers, lathes (Tsugami Swiss Lathe), and related equipment.
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions.
• Perform tool changes, fixture setup, offset adjustments, and program edits as needed.
• Verify dimensions using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauges.
• Monitor machine performance and identify opportunities to improve cycle times, quality, and throughput.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality teams to resolve problems.
• Conduct first-piece and in-process inspections to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Support new product introductions, process development, and production ramp-up activities.
• Maintain accurate production and quality records.
• Follow all safety requirements, operating procedures, and company policies.
• Participate in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with training less experienced machinists and machine operators as required.

Qualifications - Education/Experience:

• Required: High school diploma or equivalent. 3+ years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience setting up and operating CNC mills and/or lathes. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings. Proficiency using precision measuring instruments. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Preferred: Technical degree, trade school certification, or Machining Technology training. Experience editing CNC programs (G-code and M-code). Experience with tooling selection and fixture setup. Knowledge of Fanuc, Mazak, Haas, or similar CNC control systems. Experience in high-volume manufacturing or metal forming environments. Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.

Knowledge/Skills:

• Strong leadership presence with the ability to develop supervisors, leads, and operators.
• Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple departments and shifts.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing KPIs, including output, efficiency, downtime, scrap, rework, schedule attainment, and labor utilization.
• Ability to lead through change as the facility scales to a three-shift operation.
• Effective communicator with the ability to work cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, WHS, and HR.
• Strong floor presence and ability to identify issues quickly in a production environment.
• Ability to drive accountability while maintaining a collaborative and respectful work environment.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to gather, interpret, and act on production data.
• Knowledge of safety practices, 5S, standard work, and continuous improvement principles.
• Ability to interpret production schedules, work instructions, drawings, specifications, and process documentation.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, sit, stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds throughout the shift.
• Ability to work around moving machinery and manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to work overtime or alternate shifts as business needs require.
