Principal Assistant County Attorney (Office of the County Attorney)

The Rockland County Office of the County Attorney is seeking a candidate to perform transactional legal work of a routine moderate to complex nature representing the County of Rockland. The candidate will be responsible for legal work involving independent responsibility for a wide variety of legal issues; e.g., legal research and writing, preparing correspondence, contracts, agreements, deeds, affidavits, resolutions, land acquisition documents, bid reviews, and notices; performing legal research, drafting legal documents; and reviewing documents for completeness, legal sufficiency and accuracy. This position reports directly to the Chief Assistant County Attorney. Job Description Duties include: providing legal advice to the Office of the County Executive, County Legislature, elected officials, commissioners, agency heads and employees on a variety of matters; providing day-to-day guidance to legal, paralegal and clerical staff, when assigned; attending public hearings, boards, commission meetings, and meetings with County, public and elected officials; participating in meetings and conferences; working with legal staff in the handling of their assigned cases; preparing case status and statistical reports, as required; conducting training for attorneys, paralegal staff and other County personnel on pertinent areas of law, newly enacted regulations, recently decided cases. Does related work as required. Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a license to practice law in New York State; and Provision of a current certificate of good standing; License to practice law in the State of New York must be maintained throughout the course of employment in this title; As a public officer one must meet all current requirements of Section 3 of the Public Officers Law, including, but not limited to United States citizenship and applicable residency requirements. Other Requirements and Information: Work Location: New City, NY Experience with budget and finance, accounting and/or real estate matters is a plus.
