Grounds Maintenance Worker

Position Summary

Maintains grounds for Port San Antonio property.

Working Conditions

Outdoor work, walking, standing, sitting, hearing, bending, crouching. Employee may be subject to moderate noise, extreme temperatures and hazardous conditions. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally with or without accommodation, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Job Function

- Mows lawns, trims and edges around walks, flower beds and walls and installs sod.

- Waters and prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches or twigs

- Sprays lawn, shrubs and trees with fertilizer, herbicides and insecticides

- Cleans grounds, removes litter and rakes leaves.

- Spreads salt on public passage ways to prevent ice buildup during freezing weather

- Plants flowers, trees and shrubs.

- Repairs and paints fences, gates, walls, walks and outbuildings when covered with graffiti.

- Removes debris from drainage ditches and culverts.

- Uses machinery such as bobcats, backhoes, shovels, mowers, edgers, ladders, fertilizer spreaders and lawn rollers.

- Makes minor repairs on equipment and sharpens tools.

- Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High School diploma or equivalent

Experience

0-6 months experience in grounds keeping or related field.

License and Certification

Must have valid Texas Driver license

Testing

Must pass criminal background check

Must pass drug test
