Department: PCH-NW | Respiratory Therapy Location: Glendale Shift: Mon-Fri, Shifts Vary, 8am-5pm Category: Director/Management Posting #: 1006276 Employee Type: Full-Time Position Summary This position assumes administrative responsibility for Respiratory Care Services programs and staff. It includes financial oversight, positive customer relations, performance management, process improvement, planning, and directing staff. The role collaborates with leaders on performance standards, systems, and processes to optimize care excellence in an efficient, effective manner while supporting Phoenix Children’s mission, vision and values. Position Duties & Responsibilities Clinical Leadership Maintains 24/7 accountability for patient care operations. Works with unit leadership and House Supervisors to support unit needs and access to leadership representation 24 hours, 7 days a week. Collaborates with colleagues to develop and implement the patient care philosophy, standards of practice, department goals, policies and procedures. Assesses necessary respiratory therapy personnel to meet fluctuating census, acuity and budgetary goals. Implements recruitment, retention and onboarding strategies to meet unit needs and foster staff satisfaction. Ensures continual delivery of high quality respiratory care. Ensures compliance with DNV and CMS standards as well as other regulatory agencies. Enforces adherence to state board of respiratory and other governing agency regulations; measures health outcomes against standards; recommends adjustments. Maintains current best practice in leadership, management, clinical knowledge and Phoenix Children’s policies and procedures, serving as a clinical resource. Human Resource Management Manages all aspects of personnel administration for unit(s) of responsibility, including recruitment, interviewing and selection of professional, technical or supervisory staff. Implements strategies to foster staff engagement, maintain low turnover and support high staff satisfaction. Assists staff with goal setting and implements continual performance development. Evaluates staffing patterns and matches staff competency with patient acuity. Manages grievances in collaboration with HR and monitors staff fitness for duty; initiates corrective action as appropriate. Identifies key performance indicators, establishes data collection methodology, evaluates performance data and responds to outcome findings. Provides feedback and support to address staff performance issues and educational needs. Monitors/reviews RISE safety reports, identifies trends and implements corrective strategies. Assesses customer and patient satisfaction and develops strategies to address issues. Supports staff through timely feedback and use of Human Resource policies and tools. Collaborates with unit-based Education Specialist for orientation and ongoing professional development. Participates proactively and retroactively in quality reviews, data collection, rounding and event reviews. Financial Management Provides timely review and feedback to management for fiscal responsibilities of designated areas. Collaborates with leaders to develop, secure approval for and monitor revenue, expenses and capital budget. Reviews financial data monthly and implements strategies to ensure budget compliance. Conducts ongoing evaluation of productivity. Strategic Management Establishes and oversees unit-based goals in conjunction with division and organizational priorities. Supports the growth of Phoenix Children’s through program development and implementation. Oversees all aspects of care delivery, direct and indirect, for areas of responsibility. Facilitates, attends and participates in medical staff, hospital and patient care area committees. Facilitates a structure of shared governance and supports a just culture. Supports unit-based and system-wide research and quality improvement initiatives. Influences nursing practice through professional organization participation. Master’s degree in a related field (Preferred). Experience Five years of experience in a specialty area or with a pediatric patient population, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities (Required). Special Skills Analytical and statistical skills to develop and monitor unit operating and personnel budgets (Required). Ability to assume 24‑hour accountability for unit coverage (Required). Licensure & Certifications Current AZ Respiratory Care Practitioner license (Required). Current BLS certification (Required). Current RRT credential (Required). PALS certification within one year of hire (Preferred). AARC membership (Preferred). NPS credential (Preferred).
