Process Technologist

Position Summary Marathon Petroleum is hiring a Process Technologist. The role focuses on ensuring the technical needs of the refinery are met, providing technical guidance across refinery operations, and driving performance improvements. Key Responsibilities Lead an Advisory Group of Technical Service engineers to support refinery technical needs. Deliver training and guide the development of Refining Engineers within the assigned technology area. Coach and mentor Technical Service engineers to improve communication and interpersonal skills. Represent Marathon on industry teams and organizations to bring industry perspective to decisions within MPC. Provide technical assistance and resources during all refinery operating modes, including normal, upset, emergency, turnaround coverage, startup, and shutdown activities. Offer guidance on operating procedures, environmental compliance, and technical aspects of expertise areas. Develop, communicate, and support adoption of corporate and refinery policies and programs. Develop and deliver technical training for Refinery Engineers and Operators to enhance technical skills across refining. Advise on monitoring process unit health and troubleshooting problems such as capacity limits, product quality issues, corrosion, fouling mechanisms, and equipment failures. Collaborate with other departments to develop repair or redesign options for acute or chronic operating problems. Support Refinery in planning and execution of projects and turnarounds by recommending contractors and licensors for process design, projects, or troubleshooting work. Advises on new technology evaluation, conceptual design, and procedural advice as an advisor with project teams. Partner with Technical Service Engineers to optimize refinery operations, improving yields, capacities, product quality, reliability, and utilization. Develop a Strategic Business Plan for the technology area, identifying projects and process opportunities for proactive refinery performance improvement. Provide sound investment decisions with robust economic justification for recommendations such as process improvements, new technology, environmental or safety upgrades, and catalyst/chemical recommendations. Facilitate communication and coordination between Refinery and Refining Staff in the technology area. Organize annual Technology Group meetings and monthly conference calls with Technologists, Tech Service engineers, and Operations members to share lessons learned. Provide KPIs, performance monitors, and weekly reports to communicate accomplishments and concerns to refining management. Ensure performance consistency across technology areas through monitoring, counseling, and CPVs. Develop alliances with technology licensors and equipment vendors, keep management apprised of financial performance. Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering required. Fifteen (15) years or more of experience in process technology, including startup, shutdown, optimization, and troubleshooting. Location Home – FL (Additional locations possible).
