POSITION: Senior Manager for Grants & Institutional Giving DEPARTMENT: City Bar Justice Center POSITION REPORTS TO: Executive Director and Director of Operations LOCATION: Hybrid (New York, NY) FLSA STATUS: Exempt The City Bar Justice Center is the largest division of the New York City Bar Association's charitable affiliate, the City Bar Fund. For nearly 50 years, our organization has furthered access to justice by addressing the unmet civil legal needs of New Yorkers facing poverty and other systemic socioeconomic barriers. The Justice Center mobilizes law firms, corporate legal departments, and other legal institutions to provide pro bono legal services; educates the public on legal issues; fosters community relationships; and shapes public policy. Its dozen civil justice projects, including New York's most comprehensive civil legal hotline, deliver high-quality services through brief advice, referrals, and direct representation. Last year, more than 3,300 pro bono attorneys partnered with the Justice Center to provide free legal services to over 23,000 New Yorkers who could not afford private counsel.

JOB FUNCTION

The City Bar Justice Center seeks a mission-driven Senior Manager for Grants & Institutional Giving to oversee the Justice Center’s full institutional funding and grants lifecycle, from prospecting and proposal development through contracting, reporting, and renewal. The role leads grant writing, collaborates with organization leadership in developing and maintaining funder relationships, ensures accuracy in grant data and reporting systems, and collaborates across teams to help the Justice Center sustain and grow institutional revenue. Co-reporting to the Justice Center’s Executive Director and Director of Operations and working in close collaboration with other senior leadership and support teams as well as the Development Manager, the ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, skilled writer, team player, passionate programming advocate, and results-focused, self-starting project manager committed to public interest work and equal access to justice. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to: Grants Management Help co-design and transition to a new grants management system to improve operational efficiency. Oversee all aspects of the grant lifecycle, including prospect research, proposal writing, and application submission for grants and institutional fundraising; crafting compelling narratives that communicate our organization's impact to diverse funders and stakeholders; and supporting grant award contracting processes, reporting, and renewals. Maintain a comprehensive grant calendar, ensuring all deadlines are met on time, and all supporting materials are submitted accurately. Manage information requests with program, finance, operations, and leadership teams. Collect, organize, and effectively communicate programmatic, financial, and impact data. Track and promptly respond to funder documentation and related support requests. Data & Reporting Maintain accurate, up-to-date records across all funder portals and internal databases. Coordinate with leadership and finance teams to track grant payments, invoices, budgets, expenditures, and reconciliations. Monitor funder deliverables and ensure data collection and reporting meet all requirements. Collaborate with the Development Manager and organizational leadership to develop reports and dashboards that track fundraising performance, measure impact, and support strategic planning for internal and external messaging, including for Board meetings, funder applications, and public-facing materials. Fundraising Strategy & Organizational Growth Collaborate with senior organizational leadership and the Development Manager to support a strategically integrated grants and fundraising revenue function, including by working together to: Monitor fundraising trends – including the utility of AI and other technologies as appropriate – and identify and advance new funding opportunities across individual, law firm, corporate, and foundation giving. Cultivate and steward relationships with funders to strengthen partnerships, improve retention, and identify opportunities to expand existing or new support. Support annual budgeting and organizational planning related to fundraising revenue. Perform other development, administrative, and organizational duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience. A minimum of 5 years of nonprofit grants management, fundraising, or other directly relevant experience. A demonstrated record of securing and managing foundation, corporate, and/or government grants is highly preferred. Experience with city, state, and federal funding contract requirements is a plus. Exceptional writing, editing, and proposal development skills; ability to translate complex programmatic and financial data into compelling funder narratives. Capacity to be self-directed with strong project management and organizational abilities and exceptional attention to detail, including proven capacity to effectively manage multiple projects or grant portfolios and deadlines simultaneously. Proficiency with grants management and CRM systems, case management platforms, Microsoft Office 365 (including Excel for data analysis and reporting), and other data and technology tools used in nonprofit development. Capacity to appropriately assess and leverage AI and other technologies to support this function’s efficiency and effectiveness. Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage effectively with funders, program staff, leadership, and Board members. Ability to work a hybrid schedule requiring regular in-person presence at the Justice Center’s midtown Manhattan offices, with occasional evening or weekend availability for events or other time sensitive tasks. This position will have a hybrid work schedule, requiring regular in-person office presence in midtown Manhattan, with occasional evening or weekend availability for events or other time sensitive tasks. The annualized salary for this role is $85,000–$105,000 depending on experience.
