Construction Safety Specialist

Pharmaceutical Construction | Elkton, VA

Compliance Management International (CMI) is seeking an experienced Construction Safety Specialist to support an active pharmaceutical construction project in Elkton, VA.

This is a long-term career opportunity for a safety professional with strong field leadership, hazard recognition, and construction safety experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily field safety oversight for contractors and subcontractors.
• Conduct safety inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and observations.
• Identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Support Pre-Task Plans (PTPs), JSAs/JHAs, permits, and incident investigations.
• Conduct orientations, toolbox talks, and safety training.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and client safety requirements.
• Monitor high-risk activities including electrical safety, fall protection, confined space, cranes/rigging, LOTO, and hot work.
• Maintain required safety reports and documentation.
• Coach field personnel and partner with project leadership to improve safety performance.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience.
• Pharmaceutical construction safety experience required.
• Current OSHA 510 required.
• Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction training completed within the past five years.
• Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Construction Standards.
• Experience overseeing high-risk construction activities.
• Strong communication, leadership, and hazard recognition skills.
• Ability to work overtime and Saturdays as project needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

• CHST, STS-C, ASP, CSP, or other BCSP certification.
• OSHA 500, NFPA 70E, or related safety certifications.
• Degree in Occupational Safety, EHS, or a related field.

Work Environment

Field-based position requiring daily oversight of active construction operations. Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods, climb ladders, work at heights, navigate construction environments, and lift up to 30 pounds.
