Facility Safety Manager - SCI Somerset

The Position Are you a highly organized, safety-focused professional looking for a dynamic, detail-oriented role where you can apply your expertise and experience? As a Facility Safety Manager with the Department of Corrections, you play a key role in keeping the institution safe and functioning smoothly. You help lead fire, safety, and environmental programs that support everyone at the State Correctional Institution at Somerset. This position offers the chance to make meaningful improvements across the facility. Description of Work This position oversees major safety, fire prevention, and environmental programs across the institution while ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with standards. As a Facility Safety Manager, you will perform the following duties: Safety Oversight: Manage daily fire, safety, and environmental programs for the institution Inspection Management: Complete and submit required safety inspections and reports on schedule Drill Coordination: Plan and conduct fire drills and maintain related records Training Delivery: Provide safety and environmental training for staff and inmates Program Administration: Maintain Right‑To‑Know materials, water system logs, and hazard control programs Incident Review: Investigate accidents and fires and recommend ways to prevent future occurrences Work Schedule and Additional Information Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch Telework: No option for telework in this position Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at a starting annual salary of $59,345.00 (before taxes) You will receive further communication regarding this position via email; check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices Qualifications Required Experience, Training & Eligibility One year of professional experience in an organized accident prevention, fire prevention, environmental safety, or security program, and a bachelor’s degree; or An equivalent combination of experience and training Additional Requirements Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required You must be able to perform essential job functions Legal Requirement You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements EEO Statement The Commonwealth is an equal employment opportunity employer and is committed to a diverse workforce.
