MAG INSTRUMENT, INC., the manufacturer of the Mag-Lite ® flashlight, has an immediate opening for a self-motivated individual to work as a Production Buyer. We are looking for a highly skilled professional to join our growing and future oriented team located in Ontario, California.

Essential Duties:

As a member of the Procurement Team, the Buyer has overall responsibility for coordination and execution of purchase orders for specialized long-term and short-term contracts for a wide variety of commodities and services. The Buyer develops and review specifications, prepares informal and formal bid solicitations, manages supplier relations, resolves discrepancies, collaborates with other departments including assisting engineering and planning with new material sources, develops alternative sources, challenge suppliers to continuously improve cost, and other procurement related functions and reports.

Required Skills:

This role requires analytical and strategic thinking skills to develop long-term sourcing strategies for materials and services.  Procurement in a manufacturing environment a plus.  Must have the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.  Typically requires a bachelor's degree in business administration or related field and two-three years of prior procurement experience.  Additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of the degree. 

• Responsible for identifying and developing prospective vendors as primary and secondary sources of supply through competitive bidding procedures, and by coordinating vendor qualification efforts
• Analyze and evaluate competitive bids
• Follow up on expected delivery dates
• Maintain on-going communication with management and suppliers

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
• 3 - 5 years hands-on purchasing experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment
• Positive can-do attitude
• Communication Proficiency - Written and Verbal
• MS Office Suite (Word, Excel)
• AS400 Experience a plus
• Teamwork
