Head of Community and Business Development

The Opportunity We are looking for a hands-on leader to run our Community Development team and grow patient referrals through provider and community partnerships. You will own partnership growth and referral performance in Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, and CT while managing a small team across multiple markets. You will also work closely with our Doula Ambassadors, who extend our boots-on-the-ground presence in local communities. This is a player-coach role. You will personally develop and manage MA/RI/CT partnerships, lead the team toward an overall referral-growth target, and improve execution against an established playbook. Our partnerships range from community organizations and independent practices to FQHCs and complex health systems. Larger partnerships require senior alignment, embedded referral workflows, multi-stakeholder project management, and ongoing relationship management. This is not a payer-sales role or a software sales role. Success means turning provider and community relationships into sustained patient referrals. What you’ll do Grow referrals in Massachusetts and Rhode Island Own partnership growth and referral performance across health systems, FQHCs, OB-GYN practices, community organizations, and public-health programs. Build relationships from senior leaders to frontline referral staff. Turn partner interest into practical, embedded referral workflows. Manage complex partnerships through activation, performance reviews, and expansion. Prioritize accounts based on referral potential, strategic value, and required effort. Address barriers when promising partners are not referring consistently. Coordinate with Doula Ambassadors to strengthen Flourish Care’s local presence. Spend meaningful time in the field developing and supporting partnerships. Referral volume will vary across the portfolio. Embedded health-system and FQHC partnerships may generate significant volume, while smaller organizations may contribute fewer but still valuable referrals. Lead the Community Development team Manage an initial team of two Community Development Partnership Managers and lead the team toward Flourish Care’s overall referral-growth target. Set clear market priorities and performance expectations. Run focused portfolio and performance reviews. Coach the team on partnership development, activation, and referral growth. Help the team focus its time on the highest-value opportunities. Drive consistent execution against Flourish Care’s existing playbook and refine it based on results. Communicate performance, risks, and resource needs to leadership. The Community Development team is responsible for generating and sustaining referrals. Once a referral is submitted, scheduling, enrollment, and care delivery are owned by other teams. What you’ll bring Provider-Growth Operator Experience and Focus You have at least six years of experience in healthcare provider growth, field outreach, referral development, market development, partnership activation, or a related function. You have owned measurable outcomes such as patient referrals, patient volume, utilization, admissions, or revenue. Experience with Complex Provider Partnerships You understand how to build senior alignment within a health system or FQHC and translate that alignment into a workflow frontline teams will use. You are comfortable managing multiple stakeholders through activation and ongoing performance reviews. Hands-on Leadership You can manage a team while remaining personally close to the work. You are equally comfortable coaching a team member, meeting with a health-system executive, visiting a clinic, and troubleshooting a referral workflow. Formal people-management experience is preferred but not required. We will also consider candidates who have demonstrated leadership through coaching, field leadership, or cross-functional initiatives. Focus and Accountability You know how to prioritize a portfolio, distinguish progress from activity, and concentrate limited resources on the strongest opportunities. Effectiveness in a High-Growth Environment You can execute with limited resources, adapt as priorities evolve, and improve an existing process without waiting for perfect information or infrastructure. Impact Driven Motivation You want your work to improve maternal and infant health and expand access to doula care. Required Qualifications Six or more years of relevant healthcare growth, outreach, market-development, or partnership experience Direct ownership of patient-referral, patient-volume, utilization, admissions, or revenue outcomes Experience working with healthcare providers and frontline clinical or administrative teams Ability to manage complex relationships across senior, operational, and frontline stakeholders Ability to work regularly in the field throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island Residence in Massachusetts or Rhode Island, or willingness to relocate before starting Preferred Qualifications Direct people-management experience Experience coaching field-based partnership or outreach professionals Experience with health systems, FQHCs, or multi-site provider organizations Experience in maternal health, women’s health, Medicaid, or community-based care Experience in a venture-backed or rapidly growing company Existing familiarity with the Massachusetts and Rhode Island healthcare ecosystem Why you’ll love working at Flourish Help shape one of Flourish Care’s most important growth channels.
