SOC 105: Introduction to Justice Studies Position: Lecturer - Academic Year Semester: Fall 2026 Day/Time: Tuesdays, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:20 p.m. Modality: Hybrid College: College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences Department: Sociology and Criminology & Justice Studies The Department of Sociology and Criminology & Justice Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part‑time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach SOC 105: Introduction to Justice Studies. Salary is commensurate with credential and experience. Course Description An introduction to the interdisciplinary field of Justice Studies. Explores economic, social, and criminal justice issues by means of sociological, philosophical, and legal perspectives and methodologies. Students will critically assess the obstacles and opportunities central to the pursuit of justice in the United States and abroad. Topics of analysis may include formal legal systems, institutionalization of injustice, environmental justice, and genocide. Minimum Qualifications A master's degree in the area of instruction or a closely related field. Per the California State University’s Out‑of‑State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU‑related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment. Preferred Qualifications A doctorate or terminal degree in the area of instruction or a closely related field. Higher education experience teaching Sociology and/or Criminology & Justice Studies. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service. Salary Commensurate With Degree Level And Experience Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 – $8,000 per full‑time month CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A – AY: $5,507 – $6,677 per full‑time month CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B – AY: $6,221 – $13,224 per full‑time month The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
