Afternoon Shift Float Custodian

Position: Afternoons Float Custodian

Schedule: 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. (Afternoons)

Salary: $17.00 per hour

The Float Custodian will fill positions around the district for call-offs, events, etc. and perform a wide range of duties, with the main responsibilities being focused on the cleanliness of the facility and grounds. This position will be a contracted position with EduStaff. If selected for the position, you will be required to complete hiring paperwork with EduStaff and fingerprinting.

Assigned Responsibilities and Duties:

• Remove trash from all offices and warehouses
• Clean and restock bathrooms
• Clean floors using mop or motorized machine
• Change light bulbs and ceiling tiles
• Clean air vents
• Clean break rooms and kitchen areas
• Coordinate ordering of all necessary cleaning supplies, toilet paper, detergents and other as needed.
• Clean windows and doors throughout the facility.
• Dust office furniture, cabinets, wall art, wall pictures, furniture, computer monitors, and other as required.
• Vacuum carpeted areas
• Disinfect horizontal surfaces, door handles, light switches and other high-touch areas.
• Paint interior and exterior walls and surfaces as required.
• Assist with removal of debris from the facility.
• Oversee afternoon custodian's performance, delegate tasks, and follow-up activities.
• Responsible for the evening shift, and at the end of work shift assist in locking up the building.
• Comply with local laws, policies, and procedures for the use, storage, and disposal of trash, waste, and cleaning chemicals.
• Reports to District Supervisor
• Assist in monitoring the afternoon in-house custodial staff to ensure all building/s are being cleaned and sanitized.
• Assist in training for in-house custodial staff.
• Use District FMX software system for input of Maintenance/Cleaning request work orders as needed.
• Fill in as a sub-custodian when and where needed (See custodial job description for duties).
• Ensure building/areas within the building are cleaned for sports games and events and assist with events when needed.
• Notify Manager of any and all building emergencies (Alarms, Fires, Pipe Breaks, Safety and Security).
• Ensure Custodians are locking all doors, windows and securing the buildings each night.
• Report all dangerous conditions to the immediate Manager. Assist maintenance with snow removal as needed.
• Sweeping, mopping, wet washing, and vacuuming of floors.
• Furniture dusting, cleaning and polishing of fixtures.
• Upholstery cleaning of all office and meeting chairs.
• Emptying and cleaning of wastebaskets.
• Cleaning of whiteboards, except when instructed by teaching staff.
• Cleaning sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains.
• Removing snow with snow blower/shoveling of sidewalks.
• Scrubbing and disinfecting of restroom toilets, urinals, sinks, and floors on a daily basis,
• Responsible for the proper use and maintenance of associated equipment.
• Assist in all school activities set-ups, catering and clean-ups. Furniture moving and relocation as needed.
• Participate in group, department, and organizational activities, meetings and committees.
• Work involves regular exposure to cleaning solutions and disinfectants as well as exposure to dust, dirt, tight spaces, offensive odors, dampness, hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment, adverse weather conditions, etc. when performing maintenance and repair work.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.

• Able to read, write and speak English

• Must be an effective communicator
• Self-starter and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Possess good habits, character and attendance records.
• Be neat in appearance and personal hygiene.
• Be able to speak, read and write at a level of proficiency that permits satisfactory job performance.
• Possess a willingness to learn new job skills.

Education and Experience:

• High school Diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of experience working in a custodial and or janitorial role in a high-traffic operation or institution.

Physical Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the Custodian is required to stand; walk, talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and climb a ladder.
