Contract Furnishings Mart is the 6th largest specialty flooring retailers in the United States, proudly family-owned and serving the Pacific Northwest & Arizona for more than 45 years. We are excited to be opening our 21st location in Bremerton, WA opening in the fall of 2026. We are seeking an experienced, analytical, and hands-on Controller to lead our finance department and oversee all daily accounting operations. In this role, you will manage financial strategy, budgeting, job costing, inventory controls, internal audit processes, and multi-location financial reporting. The ideal candidate understands the financial dynamics of the building materials, distribution, or flooring industry by specifically balancing inventory turn, credit card merchant/surcharge structures, sales tax/CAT compliance across Oregon and neighboring markets, and modern ERP software management. Key Responsibilities: Lead and execute month-end and year-end close processes, preparing accurate, GAAP-compliant balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports. Analyze operational data and deliver clear variance reports and financial insights to executive leadership. Manage multi-entity or multi-branch accounting structures, tracking revenue, allocations, and overhead across corporate locations and showrooms. Direct cash flow planning, banking relationships, line of credit management, and working capital optimization. Operational Accounting & Industry Controls: Oversee Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, credit approval processes, and vendor payment terms. Monitor and refine inventory accounting (cycle counts, landed cost tracking, freight, claims/slips, and obsolescence reserve). Manage merchant processing fees, credit card surcharge compliance, and cash handling workflows across branch/storefront locations. Implement and enforce strong internal controls to protect assets and streamline operational workflows. Coordinate system maintenance, database accuracy, or enterprise software upgrades (ERP) for sales, inventory, and ledger integration. Tax, Payroll & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to federal, state, and local tax requirements—including the Oregon Corporate Activity Tax (CAT), Portland Clean Energy Tax (PCEF), local business taxes, and Washington state excise/sales tax filings (if applicable). Oversee payroll processing, employee benefits administration, and multi-state employment tax compliance. Serve as the main point of contact for external CPA firms, financial auditors, banking institutions, and insurance providers. Required Qualifications & Skills: Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. CPA or CMA designation is a plus. Experience: 5+ years of progressive financial management experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager. Industry Experience: Prior accounting background in building materials, distribution, flooring, manufacturing, or general construction/subcontracting strongly preferred. Technical Proficiency: Deep experience with industry ERP software, inventory systems, or platforms like Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks Enterprise, or specialized flooring/distributor ERPs. Tax Knowledge: Solid grasp of Pacific Northwest corporate tax environments (Oregon CAT, local Portland/Multnomah County business taxes). Soft Skills: Excellent leadership, high attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to translate complex financial data for non-financial operations managers. Preferred Attributes: Experience leading and/or transitioning teams through a software/ERP system rollout. Understanding of commercial leasing, facility cost centers, and fleet/asset tracking. Strong background in team leadership—coaching, mentoring, and developing accounting staff. Benefits & Compensation (Typical Portland Metro Market Range): Base Salary: $100,000 – $130,000 annually (commensurate with experience and business scale).
