The City of Napa is hiring a Senior Traffic Engineer! The community is located in the beautiful wine country of Napa Valley. Napa is the largest city and the county seat of Napa County, located in the North Bay region of the Bay area. The City of Napa has 11 departments, including the City Manager's Office, Human Resources, Finance, Parks and Recreation Services, Community Development, City Clerk's Office, City Attorney's Office, Public Works, Utilities, Police and Fire services. The Public Works Department's 85 full-time employees design, construct, operate and maintain the City of Napa's public infrastructure. The Transportation/Traffic Engineering division is responsible for traffic safety and coordination of programs and traffic projects throughout the City in support of transportation safety.

The Senior Traffic Engineer serves as the Transportation Engineering Division Manager, leading a team of five fulltime technical and professional staff. The Division is responsible for transportation planning, traffic engineering, traffic safety for all modes of travel, traffic calming, private development review process related to traffic engineering, and responding to traffic requests and inquiries. This requires a substantial level of professional traffic engineering training and experience and the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.

The City seeks a local government professional that has achieved an excellent level of technical, functional, and/or professional skill or knowledge in this position's related areas while keeping up with current developments and trends in these areas of expertise. A combination of education and experience for this position includes a Bachelor's degree or equivalent with major work in Traffic, Transportation or Civil Engineering or a closely related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as a professional engineer in Traffic or Transportation Engineering, including supervisory responsibilities. Registration as a Professional Traffic Engineer or Civil Engineer in the State of California with good standing is required.
