Software EngineerWe are hiring a Software Engineer to join our Billing Applications team at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee!In this role, you will support and enhance the applications responsible for premium billing, receipts processing, ACH drafting, claims recovery, delinquency management, COBRA administration, and self-funded billing operations that directly impact BCBST's billing accuracy. As part of a collaborative team of engineers, you will contribute to new development, enhancements to existing applications, production support, lifecycle upgrades, and ongoing modernization efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working across both legacy and modern technologies while helping transform critical business systems that support core financial operations.Ideal candidates for the role will bring:Strong experience developing applications using C# and SQLExperience supporting enterprise business applications throughout the software development lifecycleThe ability to troubleshoot, enhance, and maintain business-critical applications in a production environmentExperience working on both new development projects and enhancements to existing systemsStrong collaboration and communication skills within a cross-functional team environmentPreferred qualifications:Healthcare or health insurance industry experienceExperience supporting billing, payment processing, or payer-related systemsExperience with SQL Server and Google BigQueryExperience developing web applications using MVC frameworksExperience working in the Agile frameworkExposure to AIX or COBOL environmentsNote:This is a remote, work-from-home position, but the final round of interviews will take place on-site in our Chattanooga, TN officeParticipation in an on-call rotation is requiredSponsorship is not available for this role.Job Responsibilities:Formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to design, develop, modify, or integrate complex information systems.Devises or modifies application systems and procedures to optimize functional requirements including capacity, operating time, response time, and form of desired results.Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents programs, subroutines, and scripts.May serve one or more project team roles, such as project lead, business systems analyst, or technical lead, for small to medium efforts or manage phases of medium to large efforts.Maintains technical skill set for software languages, databases, platforms, operating systems, utilities and networks needed to support work assignments.Responds to system failures and performance events by taking appropriate measures to reduce system downtime and eliminate recurrence of problems.Regularly provides guidance and training to less-experienced analysts/programmers.Job Qualifications:Education:Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience required. Equivalent years of experience are determined as one year of technical experience for every year of college requested.Experience:1 year - Experience with information technology concepts, application development methodology, terminology, and standards required3 years - Systems and programming experience required1 year - Expert working knowledge of at least one programming language in use at BCBST.Skills/Certifications:Proven skill with information technology in use at BCBST is requiredProven analysis, design, and coding skills, and demonstrated success in leading large and complex projectsDemonstrated ability to interpret and translate technical and/or or complex concepts into information meaningful to project team members and/or business personnel.Be organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks with exceptional work ethic.Leadership skillsMust be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical co-workers2+ years working experience with.Net and/or C# required.Experience with SQL preferred.BCBST experience preferred.Financial experience is a plus.Web development experience is a plus.
