Peer Support Specialist - Community Outreach Services

Yamhill County has one regular full-time position (36 hours/week) for a Peer Support Specialist to work closely with the Yamhill County mobile crisis team, Community Outreach Services, providing a wide range of supports and advocacy to individuals with immediate behavioral health concerns. The person in this position will assist individuals through crisis situations, assist with accessing resources, addressing barriers related to behavioral health disorders treatment, and engage in proactive outreach throughout the community. Community-based mobile crisis services use face-to-face professional and peer intervention, deployed in real time to the location of a person in crisis, in order to achieve the needed and best outcomes for that individual. Peer support workers often take the lead on engagement and may also assist with continuity of care by providing support that continues beyond the resolution of the immediate crisis. The schedule for this position is Thursdays and Fridays 8 am to 8 pm and Saturdays 6 am to 6 pm, with a paid half hour lunch. The Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in human services related field OR A combination of at least one year’s work experience AND two years’ post-secondary education in human services related field OR A high school diploma AND three years’ work experience in human services related field. Requires a Peer Support Specialist certification from a state-approved program or ability to obtain certification within two months of hire. Requires an NPI number or ability to obtain one upon employment. The Candidate: The Peer Support Specialist must be a self-identified current or former recipient of mental health or substance use services who embraces the philosophy of resilience and recovery, who is willing to be a role model for persons receiving mental health/ or substance use services, and ideally have experience with an array of mental health/substance use services such as medication management, supported housing, supported employment, hospitalization, etc., and personal experience and knowledge of recovery. The successful candidate will have good written and verbal communication skills, general keyboarding and computer skills (including working knowledge of Microsoft Office, a valid license to drive in Oregon, and must have excellent personal boundaries, organizational skills, and demonstrated honesty, accuracy, and integrity.
