Facilities Management & Construction (FMC) manages, operates, and maintains 56 City-owned buildings throughout the five boroughs, working to provide clean, safe, and energy efficient space for the tenants in these public buildings. FMC is dedicated to both the daily maintenance of the public buildings, managed by Building Services, Fire & Life Safety, and other critical field staff, as well as to long-term renovation and rehabilitation projects, which are managed by a dedicated staff of architects, engineers, and other professional technical experts. FMC also oversees the daily operations of all elevators across the DCAS public buildings portfolio. Construction & Technical Services (CTS) under FMC consists of a design, construction and technical team of architects, engineers, elevator mechanics, as well as project & property managers who provide services for time-sensitive rehabilitation, renovations, and maintenance in City-owned properties.
Its design team performs in-house designs, conducts field inspections, and ensures design compliance with Local Laws. This team also performs reviews of design consultant drawings to assure accountability for the needed renovations.
The construction team manages and oversees time-sensitive construction projects to ensure daily activities comply with contract drawings, specifications, building codes, budget, and timelines. This team assesses field conditions, prepares reports, and coordinates meetings with contractors, consultants, and the in-house design crew to address variations from the original design drawings to accommodate field conditions and/or client requests.
The technical team manages the maintenance and surplus in City-Owned properties, handles the contracts for services including, but not limited to, interior rehabilitation and construction, waterfront construction, sidewalk repair, fencing, demolition, pest control, erection of scaffolding; handles and maintains the design and management of site safety projects (Local Laws and Violations) and maintains and repairs all elevators, escalators and ADA lifts throughout City-Owned buildings within the five boroughs.
The DCAS Trade Shops help with all in-house construction and repair services needed within DCAS-managed sites. The Shops perform small-scale renovations such as partitions/drywall work, rough and finish carpentry, interior/exterior painting, electrical and plumbing repairs, structural steel, concrete, and masonry work and manufacture in-house replacement of parts for obsolete equipment and locksmith services and Mayoral Ceremonies and Special Events.
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Architect, the employee's duties and responsibilities will be, but will not be limited to the following: -Assist inhouse technical staff with design details before and during construction.
-Assist inhouse technical staff with the management and coordination of construction projects.
-Assisting inhouse staff to review design drawings according to field conditions and help prepare sketches for omitted conditions found within the designs.
-Assist in the review of construction/consultants reports to help determine payment progress.
-Assist inhouse staff to conduct field inspections for a fair and reasonable standard of proposed negotiations, based on field conditions.
-Assist inhouse staff in developing change order negotiations, based on technical bulletins, drawings, and sketches, and reviewing the validity of extra work costs and credits of the work performed is not part of the original contract.
-Assist inhouse staff with the review of all change orders submitted for DCAS in-house projects; its validity, cost before its submission to Engineering Audit.
-Assist inhouse staff with the review of construction requisitions based on work progress is in conformance to the plans and specifications reports and determine final payment amounts.
-Assist inhouse staff with the preparation of project estimates based on building needs (Capital/Expense New Needs) and as proposed by the in-house staff.
-Assist inhouse staff in the review of construction projects estimates for DCAS facilities as submitted by other agencies and reviewing consultants and contractors estimates for accuracy and completeness.
-Assist inhouse staff in the review of contract documents comprised of drawings and specifications to attain estimates of value(s).

Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
