As we grow our U.S. technical operations, we are seeking an experienced engineering leader to build, scale, and guide our multidisciplinary design organizations.Position OverviewThe Technical Engineering Director will provide strategic leadership, departmental oversight, and executive‑level technical guidance for engineering operations. This role is focused on leading teams, ensuring technical excellence, strengthening client relationships, and expanding the technical organization—not performing hands‑on design engineering.This position is ideal for a senior technical leader with strong multidisciplinary knowledge, proven experience developing engineering teams, and the ability to interface confidently with clients, executives, and project stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide strategic leadership for multidisciplinary engineering teams, including organizational development, staffing strategy, and department scaling.Oversee delivery of engineering projects across mechanical, electrical, process, aerospace, and wastewater disciplines, ensuring quality, compliance, and technical rigor.Serve as the senior technical authority in client meetings, technical reviews, and high‑impact project decisions.Establish and implement engineering standards, best practices, quality control processes, and innovative design methodologies.Partner with project management, business development, and executive leadership to shape proposals, project scopes, and technical execution strategies.Mentor and develop engineering managers and senior technical leads to support long‑term departmental growth.Support complex project troubleshooting, risk evaluation, and technical direction at key milestones—while delegating day‑to‑day design work to engineering teams.Represent the company at technical conferences, industry events, and strategic client discussions.QualificationsProfessional Engineer (PE) license required (multi‑state licensure or ability to obtain preferred).12–20+ years of experience in multidisciplinary engineering, with at least 5+ years in departmental leadership or engineering director roles.Strong understanding of engineering principles across mechanical, electrical, process, aerospace, and/or wastewater disciplines.Proven experience leading and scaling engineering departments or technical teams.Demonstrated success in client‑facing technical roles—communicating complex engineering concepts to executives, owners, and project stakeholders.Excellent leadership, communication, coaching, and high‑level decision‑making abilities.Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; advanced degree in engineering or engineering management preferred.Why Join UsShape and lead the U.S. engineering organization for a global firm entering a major growth phase.High‑impact executive technical leadership role with autonomy to build the department structure and culture.Hybrid work environment offering flexibility with strong organizational support.Opportunity to influence major U.S. industrial, municipal, aerospace, and infrastructure projects.
