Title: Cardiac Sonographer - Echocardiography


Location: Lafayette, LA


Duration: 1-3 Months


Shift: Day Shift, 8 Hours


Schedule: 40 Hours per Week


Hours: 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM


Contract Length: 10 Weeks

Job Summary:


We are seeking an experienced Cardiac Sonographer to join a busy Cardiology and Cath Services team. The ideal candidate will perform a variety of cardiac ultrasound and diagnostic procedures, including echocardiograms, Doppler studies, stress echocardiography, and related cardiovascular testing. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to provide exceptional patient care while collaborating with physicians and clinical staff.


Responsibilities:
• Perform diagnostic cardiac ultrasound procedures, including 2D/M-Mode, Doppler, and Color Flow imaging.
• Conduct Exercise Stress Echocardiograms and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms.
• Obtain and review patient histories and relevant clinical information.
• Prepare patients for procedures and provide education regarding testing and expectations.
• Compile preliminary sonographic findings for physician review.
• Assist physicians during procedures requiring ultrasound guidance.
• Maintain accurate documentation, records, and diagnostic reports.
• Ensure imaging quality and adherence to departmental protocols.
• Prepare and maintain equipment and work areas in accordance with safety standards.
• Maintain professional competency through ongoing education and credentialing.
• Adapt care and communication techniques to meet the needs of diverse patient populations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.


Education:
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.


Experience:
• Minimum 2 years of cardiac ultrasound experience required.


Licensure & Certifications:
• Active RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) credential through ARDMS required.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.


Skills & Qualifications:
• Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, Doppler physics, and blood flow hemodynamics.
• Ability to recognize and identify potential stenosis or occlusions based on established diagnostic criteria.
• Experience assisting physicians with ultrasound-guided procedures.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records, computers, and healthcare software applications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and patient care skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• Strong organizational, decision-making, and critical-thinking abilities.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Flexibility to accommodate changing schedules and departmental needs when required.


Work Environment:
• Frequent patient interaction in a clinical healthcare environment.
• Routine exposure to blood, bodily fluids, tissues, and communicable diseases.
• Potential exposure to hazardous medications and healthcare-related waste.
• Ability to frequently lift and move equipment and patients, exerting 10-20 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.


Preferred Candidate Profile:
• Experienced RDCS-certified Cardiac Sonographer with a strong echocardiography background.
• Skilled in stress echo testing and advanced cardiac imaging procedures.
• Strong patient-focused approach with excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Comfortable working independently while maintaining a high standard of diagnostic accuracy.
