About the Nursing Mother Baby Unit at Sinai Hospital

Located at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, the Nursing Mother Baby Unit provides compassionate, family-centered care for mothers and their newborns during the important transition following childbirth. Our dedicated team supports the health and well-being of both mother and baby through a collaborative approach focused on safety, education, bonding, and positive patient experiences.

The Mother Baby Unit partners closely with nurses, physicians, lactation consultants, and other members of the healthcare team to provide personalized care that supports postpartum recovery, newborn care, and family education. Our team is committed to creating a welcoming, supportive environment where every family receives exceptional care during this meaningful stage of their journey.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides safe, compassionate, and age-appropriate care to postpartum patients and newborns within the Mother Baby Unit. The CNA supports the nursing team by assisting with activities of daily living, maintaining a safe patient environment, and promoting comfort for mothers and their newborns.

The ideal candidate is compassionate, attentive to detail, and committed to providing a positive experience for patients and families during their hospital stay.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide supportive care to postpartum patients, including assistance with hygiene, mobility, comfort measures, and activities of daily living
• Assist with newborn care activities under the direction and supervision of the nursing team
• Support a clean, safe, and organized patient environment by changing linens, maintaining bedside areas, and restocking supplies
• Assist patients with comfort needs, including positioning, obtaining supplies, and ensuring access to personal items
• Support the nursing team with patient care activities and communicate patient needs or changes in condition promptly
• Promote a positive, respectful, and family-centered patient experience
• Follow infection prevention practices, safety standards, and hospital policies and procedures

Qualifications

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Active Maryland Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) license
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Less than one (1) year of direct clinical experience

Preferred:

• Experience in maternal-child health, postpartum care, newborn care, or a hospital setting preferred but not required
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to compassionate patient care
