Credit Specialist

The Credit Specialist will play an integral role in evaluating loan risk, supporting sellers, and ensuring the quality of loans purchased meets company guidelines. This role requires deep mortgage underwriting expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to make sound credit decisions in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Analyze non-agency mortgage loans for completeness, underwriting quality, and compliance with purchase guidelines Evaluate and recommend underwriting waivers and exceptions related to borrower credit and property Clearly communicate compensating factors to justify credit exceptions Partner with sellers and third-party diligence providers to assess loan scenarios and provide feedback Review and interpret seller underwriting guidelines and product eligibility criteria Identify loan quality trends and provide recommendations to improve credit policy Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and risk management Serve as a subject matter expert on underwriting and compliance matters Collaborate cross-functionally with trading, sales, legal, compliance, and structured finance teams Qualifications 8+ years of mortgage industry experience 5+ years of underwriting experience 2+ years of Jumbo (manual) underwriting experience required Non-QM experience preferred Strong knowledge of loan origination documentation and credit risk analysis Excellent communication and client service skills High attention to detail and strong analytical abilities Proven ability to make sound credit decisions and solve complex problems #J-18808-Ljbffr
