You will apply engineering, construction, property condition, environmental, seismic, and related expertise to assess materiality, challenge conclusions, and translate third-party report findings into sound risk decisions throughout the loan life cycle.THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKEAs a key member of the Third-Party Report Risk team within the Multifamily Credit Risk Office’s Financial Risk Oversight and Advisory division, you will join an experienced commercial real estate team building a comprehensive collateral risk oversight and advisory function. The team provides independent challenge and risk-based oversight of third-party vendors and reports supporting critical property and credit decisions. You will bring deep physical-risk expertise to help shape the frameworks, tools, vendor controls, and advisory practices used to identify, evaluate, communicate, and escalate material collateral risks—strengthening Multifamily’s financial risk assessment capabilities and credit risk position.The Multifamily Collateral Risk Advisor will support Second-Line oversight of the Multifamily Business and partner across the loan life cycle to:Independently assess engineering, property condition, seismic, environmental, and construction-related reports, including assumptions, methodologies, findings, and conclusions.Provide effective challenge and expert advice on material findings, risk ratings, mitigants, and risk treatment, translating technical issues into practical credit considerations.Produce timely, well-supported conclusions that identify material issues, recommend resolution or escalation, and strengthen consistent collateral risk decision-making.Oversee physical-risk review workflows and controls, including report tracking, issue resolution, and disciplined documentation.Advise Multifamily teams and lender counterparties on the reasonableness, materiality, and use of collateral assessments; provide targeted training as needed.Conduct targeted site visits to validate material concerns, support risk assessments, and escalate findings as appropriate.Manage and monitor approved property condition and engineering vendors, including qualifications, report quality, performance trends, deficiencies, and remediation.Help evolve physical-risk decision-support tools, rating criteria, procedures, and monitoring practices consistent with industry standards and Fannie Mae expectations.THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAMMinimum Required Experience6 years of commercial real estate experience in engineering, construction, architecture, property condition, environmental, or related technical risk disciplines; multifamily experience preferred.Experience evaluating or overseeing technical third-party reports and applying findings to commercial real estate risk or credit decisions applicable to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac or other institutional quality lender and/or investor.Desired Experience & EducationBachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, environmental sciences, architecture, geology or related field; relevant construction, engineering, architecture, environmental, or property-condition certifications preferred.Demonstrated ability to distinguish material risk and synthesize complex technical information for nontechnical decision-makers.Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience managing multiple deliverables across simultaneous ongoing assignments while leveraging excellent judgment and organizational skills to influence stakeholders.Experience with third-party vendor oversight, performance monitoring, and quality control, or experience leading engineering/environmental practices and using analytical tools for risk monitoring.Working knowledge of Mortgage Bankers Association’s physical condition standards with a general understanding of property performance systems including site work, structural, building envelopes, mechanical, engineer and plumbing.AI literacy and comfort leveraging AI tools in day-to-day work, as integrating AI into how we operate is a core expectation across all roles at Fannie Mae.Multifamily Risk - Risk Management - Advisor#LI-NL1 - HybridQualificationsEducation:Bachelor's Level Degree (Required)The future is what you make it to be.
