Collector

Location: Syracuse, NY (100% onsite) Harris Beach Murtha is seeking a Collector to manage the collection of money judgments through the use of judgment enforcement mechanisms available to judgment creditors. The role requires strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and proactively. You will thrive in this role if you have: 2+ years of office experience; collections background in a legal environment preferred Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred Extreme attention to detail and accuracy Sound judgment and a sense of accountability Strong verbal and written communication, client service, and listening skills The Collector will be responsible for: Communicating with debtors, clients, sheriffs and courts regarding recovery Conducting searches for debtors and their assets Determining when files are not collectable or require further action from an attorney Maintaining accurate file records and consistently performing file review processes Ordering various reports related to collections proceedings Scantracing to obtain addresses on new files as needed Preparing settlement documents and/or repayment plans Preparing various enforcement documents for recovery Preparing payoffs for debtors and third parties Preparing status reports for clients Assisting with other duties as needed You will be successful in your career at the firm if you: Maintain high standards of performance and exhibit a professional, cooperative, positive, and flexible attitude Demonstrate excellent organizational skills for prioritizing workload in a fast‑paced environment Enjoy working with diverse personalities at various levels of the firm Demonstrate the ability to acquire understanding quickly and absorb new information rapidly Exhibit conscientiousness, dedication, self-discipline, and a sense of responsibility Believe in the firm’s core values: collaboration, inclusion, ingenuity, respect, integrity, and commitment Be comfortable working fully onsite Salary information will vary depending on relevant experience, geographic location, and weekly hours schedule. The anticipated weekly schedule for the Collector in Syracuse is 38.75 hours per week.
