The Director of Materials Planning & Supply Execution is a hands-on leader responsible for executing material planning to ensure customer demand is met in a highly volatile and constrained supply environment. This role is accountable for material readiness, shortage mitigation, and supply recovery. The Director must actively manage MRP outputs (NetSuite preferred), lead planners and buyers in daily execution, and ensure that customer forecasts translate into actionable and secured material supply. This is an execution-driven role focused on preventing line-down situations, protecting revenue, and ensuring supply continuity despite market shortages. Primary Accountability Ensure material availability aligns with customer demand — even during volatility and shortages. Key Responsibilities Hands-On Material Planning Execution (Critical Focus) Personally review and validate MRP (NetSuite) outputs Own daily and weekly material coverage analysis. Identify shortages before they impact production. Lead daily shortage review meetings with planners and buyers. Develop immediate recovery plans for constrained components. Drive pull-in, expedite, and allocation strategies with suppliers. Maintain clear visibility of: Past due Customer POs and Internal SOs At-risk components Allocation items Long lead-time materials Report weekly to COO and key management team on: Material gaps Recovery timelines Revenue at risk Customer impact exposure This role is responsible for preventing surprises. Volatile Supply & Shortage Management Volatile Supply & Shortage Management Build buffer strategies for long lead-time semiconductors and critical components. Secure allocation of commitments from strategic suppliers. Develop dual-source strategies where possible. Continuously monitor global supply risk affecting critical components. Implement shortage prioritization rules aligned with revenue and customer importance. Create structured shortage dashboards and escalation protocols. Translate customer forecasts into executable material plans. Align sales forecasts with material coverage realities. Challenge unrealistic demand when supply cannot support it. Drive disciplined S&OP cadence with Sales and Finance. Improve forecast accuracy to reduce firefighting. Ensure material plans are updated immediately when forecasts shift. Strategic Supplier Execution Work directly with key suppliers to: Secure supply commitments Negotiate allocation protection Establish long-term agreements for critical components Conduct regular supplier reviews focused on: On-time delivery Lead time reliability Supply flexibility Escalate supply risks early to executive leadership. Customer Commitment Protection Support customer communication regarding: Delivery risk Material shortages Recovery schedules Ensure all commitments are data-backed and realistic. Protect company credibility by eliminating last-minute surprises. Required Experience 8–12+ years of direct materials planning and procurement experience in electronics or semiconductor-driven manufacturing. Proven experience operating in material shortage / allocation environments. Deep understanding of: Semiconductor lead times Component allocation Supply risk mitigation Demonstrated ability to execute under pressure and manage daily supply firefighting. Comfortable working at a detailed transactional level — not just a high-level strategy. Success Metrics Reduction in shortage aging. Improved forecast-to-material alignment.
