2026-2027 Substitute Bus Driver

Job Description Starting Date: Immediately Position: Substitute Bus Driver Job Description: Assist challenging students being transported to and from school as well as performing related work activities in a safe and timely manner. Responsibilities Assist in maintaining, reading and understanding route sheets including time changes Exercising student management through correct use of communication and discipline Report discipline problems through proper school district procedures Assist in the inspection of each vehicle before and after each trip using correct procedures and completing proper district documents Qualifications High School Diploma or GED preferred Must be 18 years of age Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License with a "P and S" endorsement Must attend in-service training classes and safety meetings Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands Tools/Equipment Used: Operate school bus; two-way radio; global positioning system (GPS); safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher. Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling. Motion: Prolonged driving; moderate walking; frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching. Lifting: Frequent heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting nonambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive equipment. Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; work around moving vehicles; regular work irregular hours, and occasional prolonged hours.
