About Us

REBUILD.US is advancing a new model for disaster response– to channel millions in private donations that flow during a climate shock to immediate care and relief operations and enlist survivors of climate shocks to organize for systems change solutions. Launched in August 2025, REBUILD.US is a fundraising and grantmaking platform, moving funds in 48 hours of a disaster to experienced, local leaders who are in community both before the disaster strikes and long after the headlines fade. REBUILD.US is intended to serve as both a rapid response platform for a mass audience as well as shared infrastructure for aligned partners in philanthropy, labor, state and national organizing, and policy groups.

The premise behind REBUILD.US is that billions of dollars are channeled to charity in post-disaster moments – mainly to global legacy organizations that provide temporary aid and rarely stay for long-term recovery. This flow of resources fails to move resources to the ground quickly nor invest in local organizations that work in the community year-round and are best positioned to respond where it's most needed right away. This resource system also fails to address systemic problems that are exacerbated by the climate disasters, such as housing, economic insecurity, fossil fuel pollution, extractive land and water use, a broken immigration system, and voter disenfranchisement.

REBUILD.US's pilot was built and tested at Organizing Resilience by moving $16m across 21 disasters to 125 local organizations. REBUILD.US is one part of a growing constellation of related interventions under the Organizing Resilience umbrella, including a National Disaster Survivors Association, a Creative Command Center, and an early-stage disaster recovery venture. REBUILD.US's long-term goal is to raise and direct 10% of all private philanthropic dollars given during climate disasters.

REBUILD.US is fiscally sponsored by Assets Under Movement.

Job Overview

REBUILD.US is seeking an experienced Fund Director who is excited about the opportunity to build the broadest base of disaster donors from all walks of life, geographies, and socio-economic statuses – to channel tens of millions of dollars into immediate response and long-term organizing for change. After a successful pilot phase and launch, this leadership role will focus on creating a scale plan and organizational structure and systems that achieve our North Star goal of contesting for 10% of all private philanthropic dollars during climate disasters. The ideal candidate will be able to hit the ground running to lead REBUILD.US’s transition from startup to scale.

The Fund Director owns the strategy and success of REBUILD.US and will work closely with its Founder and the Executive Director of Organizing Resilience, while also aligning strategies with leadership across our other interventions. Internally, the Fund Director will translate an ambitious long-term vision into measurable goals and clear priorities, and ensure execution. During climate shocks, the Fund Director will lead rapid-response activations, coordinating team and partners to make strategic decisions that allow the team to execute quickly. Externally, the Fund Director should be credible and effective in front of stakeholder audiences, including donors, partners, movement leaders, and the press when the moment calls for it.

This role is designed for a creative and ambitious “generalist” who also has expertise in one or more of the following: grassroots fundraising, major donor organizing, digital communications, and/or marketing and branding. The ideal candidate has experience managing a team within a rapid-response or startup environment, thinks in systems and measurable outcomes, and can turn significant activity into a focused work plan with clear hypotheses, opportunities for testing, and impeccable follow-through.

Core Responsibilities

Comprehensive Planning and Project Design
  • Translate REBUILD.US ’s North Star goal of contesting for 10% of private disaster philanthropy into a strategic and tactical plan with clear goals, benchmarks, priorities, and measures of success.
  • Translate long-term strategy into actionable plans and provide day-to-day leadership and accountability.
  • Maintain a clear view of how REBUILD.US ’s fundraising, grantmaking, partnerships, communications and operational strategies are working together to advance REBUILD.US ’s North Star goal.
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of programs and make adjustments to program design, priorities and resource allocation to continue to make progress towards REBUILD.US ’s North Star goal.
  • Build opportunities for testing and validated learning into program design and day-to-day operations to continually increase organizational effectiveness.
  • Introduce a lean-startup discipline to the organization by defining core value hypotheses, conducting quick and routine testing, and remaining nimble to adjust workflows.
Team Management
  • Supervise and provide strategic direction for the REBUILD.US Team.
  • Establish clear goals, roles, expectations and accountability systems that support individual and team performance in close coordination with AUM+ People and Culture team
  • Build structures, workflows, and management practices needed to support REBUILD.US as it transitions from start-up to scale.
  • Lead and coordinate staff, consultants, and vendors to ensure excellent performance to reach goals in each program area of REBUILD.US – major donor fundraising, grassroots and digital fundraising, digital communications, and local and national partnerships.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team capable of operating effectively during both rapid-response and ‘blue-sky’ periods.
Fundraising and Grantmaking Program
  • Lead the development and scaling of REBUILD.US ’s fundraising strategy across all workstreams ie. major donors, institutional giving, grassroots, digital, and influencers.
  • Refine and enhance the existing fundraising program and grantmaking framework to meet the organization’s scale phase. For the grant program, this includes funding criteria, timelines, decision-making authority, and reporting, in coordination with support from our operations team.
  • Oversee REBUILD.US ’s grantmaking framework including funding criteria, timelines, decision-making authority, and reporting.
  • Oversee operations staff to ensure grantmaking systems support rapid and effective movement of resources during climate disasters.
  • Keep fundraising and grantmaking strategies aligned with REBUILD.US ’s broader theory of change.
  • Lead rapid-response activations during climate disasters, coordinating the REBUILD.US team, consultants, and vendors to collectively set and execute goals.
National Partnerships
  • Ensure REBUILD.US continues to grow its utility as shared "movement infrastructure” so that an increased number of organizations across philanthropy, labor, and organizing adopt REBUILD.US as their “go-to” rapid response for disaster fundraising and grantmaking vehicles.
  • Build and strengthen relationships across philanthropy, labor, organizing, policy and other aligned sectors.
  • Represent REBUILD.US externally with donors, partners, movement leaders and other stakeholders.
Operations and Financial Oversight
  • Establish formal operational and financial systems, including elevating existing project management tools, CRM, and data sets.
  • Evaluate and improve existing project management tools, CRM systems, data sets, workflows, and reporting structures. Develop systems that create greater visibility into organizational priorities, progress, performance, and organizational decision-making.
  • Develop and manage the REBUILD.US budget and coordinate closely with the Organizing Resilience fundraising and operations team to ensure the core budget of REBUILD.US is raised, and the REBUILD.US program cash flow management is properly managed.
  • Partner with the Organizing Resilience team to ensure REBUILD.US 's core operating budget is raised.
  • Oversee program cash-flow planning and ensure financial resources are effectively managed during both rapid-response activations and ongoing operations.
  • Align financial decisions and resource allocation with REBUILD.US ’s strategic goals.
Organizational Leadership
  • Oversee and communicate the overall vision for REBUILD.US . Align the team’s programmatic work with REBUILD.US ’s values, strategy, and long-term goals.
  • Work in close partnership with leaders of Organizing Resilience to strengthen cross-functional alignment and maximize collective impact.
  • Support effective organizational decision-making and help build leadership systems and practices needed for REBUILD.US ’s continued growth.
Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with at least five years in a senior leadership position in large-scale non-profit, philanthropy, and/or a political or policy campaign.
  • Demonstrated experience building, launching and scaling startups, organizations, or major new initiatives.
  • Experience in leading a remote, high-performing team that spans disciplines, and driving impact at scale across different locations while raising standards and performance outputs.
  • Experience successfully managing a multi-million-dollar budget.
  • Demonstrated relationships with a robust network of individuals and institutions across related fields necessary to achieve organizational goals.
  • Ability to joyfully and effectively operate at strategic and tactical levels, and moving fluidly between the two.
  • Proactive strategic thinker with a bias for action with the ability to move from ideation to implementation within constrained timelines.
  • Deep commitment to disaster-impacted communities and to a survivor-centered, justice-oriented approach to recovery; direct experience with climate disaster response, organizing, or survivor communities is a strong plus.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills across a wide range of stakeholders: staff, media, funders, movement partners, and survivors.
  • Ability to execute at a high level both during rapid response and shock moments, and during blue sky periods.
Salary & Benefits

The salary for this position is $150,000 - $180,000 and is commensurate with experience. This position is remote and a U.S. based role. The role will require domestic travel, as needed.
