Anesthesia Aide, Anesthesiology (Evenings)

Position: Anesthesia Aide, Anesthesiology Location: Boston, MA Schedule: 40 hours per week, 3:00 – 11:30 pm Position Summary Under general supervision, assists the anesthesiologist in the set’up and preparation of equipment for surgical procedures and provides preventative maintenance on medical equipment. Assists the anesthesiologist with patient preparation and provides additional assistance as necessary during the surgical procedure. Job Responsibilities Assist the Anesthesia Floor Leaders with various resources as requested. Demonstrate ability to organize time evidenced by completion of work assignments within shift. Room preparation (Beginning of Day and Turnover): Disposes of dirty items remaining from previous case. Clean surfaces and equipment according to defined infection control guidelines (anesthesia machine, anesthesia cart surfaces, monitoring equipment, etc.). Set up necessary equipment (anesthesia machines, airway management devices, fluid warming, pressure infusers, ultrasounds, monitoring equipment, suction canister and tubing). Place anesthesia breathing circuit on the anesthesia machine and perform the leak test. Restock anesthesia carts following the approved inventory checklist. Room preparation at the end of the day (Terminal Cleaning): Disposes of dirty items left over from previous case. Clean surfaces and equipment according to infection control guidelines. Restock anesthesia carts following the approved checklist. Place unopened anesthesia circuit, unopened mask, and unopened Yankauer suction tip on the anesthesia machine. Ensure there are 2 unopened laryngoscope handles, 2 clean laryngoscope batteries in chargers. Unopened MAC 3 & 4 and Miller 2 & 3 blades available. Require being on call one weekend every 7 weekends. Job Requirements Education High school diploma or state high school equivalency (GED). Experience Prior experience in a similar setting preferred; on‑job training will be provided. Knowledge and Skills Effective verbal and written communication skills to work with clinical personnel, resolve problems, and properly identify and label supplies for inventory purposes. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while operating equipment, arranging instrument trays and equipment carts, and conducting inventory. Ability to push/pull carts of instruments and/or equipment weighing up to 200pounds. Work with patients possessing potentially infectious disease, contaminated instruments and equipment, and hazardous materials; observe \"Universal Precautions\" by wearing protective clothing, gloves, goggles, and complying with safe handling practices.
