Corrections Specialist 3 - Graduated Reentry - Tacoma

Job Summary Corrections Specialist 3 (CS3) – full‑time, permanent position with the Community Corrections Division’s Graduated Reentry (GRE) unit located at 1016 South 28th Street, Tacoma, WA 98409. The role monitors incarcerated individuals (I/I) transferred to Extraordinary Medical Placement (EMP) per DOC policy 350.270 and those approved to participate in the GRE Alternative under the Graduated Reentry Law ESSB 5121. The incumbent works with families, community providers, employers and other stakeholders from a case‑management perspective to facilitate successful community integration. Shift: Monday‑Friday, 0800‑1700. Responsibilities Monitor I/I in the community in accordance with Washington state law, rules, regulations and agency policy within prescribed timeframes. Engage with I/I to encourage and work toward positive change. Enforce GRE/AMP program conditions and applicable law. Facilitate requirements of ESSB 5121 Graduated Reentry. Lead other Corrections Specialists. Perform other duties as assigned and necessary. Minimum Qualifications Must have the ability to carry and properly utilize a department‑issued firearm. Note: Staff who do not qualify for legacy status under the provisions for arming are required to be armed and must be willing and able to possess and use a firearm under federal and state law; maintain firearm qualifications; and successfully complete ongoing training requirements associated with mandatory arming and potential use of force. Must possess and maintain a driver’s license valid in the state of Washington. Must possess one of the following: Four years’ experience as a Community Corrections Officer with the Washington State Department of Corrections. or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution plus three years of professional case‑management experience in adult or juvenile corrections or a closely related field, including at least three of the following: making field visits, writing reports, assessing cases and making recommendations, referring people to resources, presenting cases in court/hearings. or an equivalent combination of higher education and/or experience totaling seven years. Desirable Qualifications Master’s degree in sociology, social work, psychology, criminology or a closely related field. Special Requirements Complete a felony disclosure form and submit to a criminal background check. Complete and pass the psychological screening (Battery Exam and Psychological Interview/Evaluation). Submit to drug testing in accordance with agency policy. Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in‑service, and other required training. Become familiar with and comply with all department policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements. Successfully complete the Firearms Academy and Control/Impedance Tactics (CIT) training within prescribed timeframes, maintaining eligibility to possess and use a firearm under federal and state law, fulfilling CIT qualifications, and completing agency requalification training and an annual criminal history clearance. Telework The position may be allocated for telework up to one day each week. Employees must have reliable internet or cellular hotspot service at an authorized location within the state of Washington. Telework responsibilities are performed in a safe manner, with proper care of state‑issued equipment and confidentiality maintained.
