Position Overview Reporting to the Program Director, the Hyperbaric Safety Director administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Provider and ensures safe operation of hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems. Essential Functions / Responsibilities Perform hyperbaric chamber operator duties, including preparing, educating, and orienting patients. Lift or transfer patients per local policy, prepare them for treatment, and answer any questions. Administer hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed, monitoring and controlling chamber equipment and patient responses to ensure safety. Make accurate data entries for daily treatments and maintain complete patient records. Operate and maintain hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support oxygen systems. Participate in safety programs, including conducting safety drills. Manage all hyperbaric equipment and supplies, ensuring safe operation and compliance with safety standards. Evaluate equipment and supplies for safety before use in or around the chamber. Remove or restrict potentially hazardous supplies or equipment items. Collaborate with the Program Director and Healogics to coordinate, approve, and ensure compliance with hyperbaric chamber upgrades, modifications, and repairs. Work closely with facility management personnel and department medical personnel for smooth day‑to‑day operations. Develop and annually revise department policies, procedures, and operation/maintenance documents in partnership with senior management. Lead hyperbaric safety program activities and initiatives, including maintaining a safe environment and using approved decompression procedures. Review safety incidents, collect information on equipment and patient safety, report incidents, and provide in‑service training. Conduct quarterly safety drills to improve staff emergency responses. Inform personnel of special work conditions such as infection prevention and hazard control. Assist the Medical Director in reviewing and documenting safety‑related events and facilitating learning. Maintain department compliance with NFPA 99 (Health Care Facilities Code) for hyperbarics. Review, recommend, and incorporate appropriate changes to departmental safety policies. Serve on the hospital’s safety or environment of care committee, as appropriate. If CMA or LPN, function as a Documentation Assistant (scribe) in accordance with company policy. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Current Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) certification preferred. Pre‑ or post‑hire completion of an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Safety course (within past 5 years). Pre‑ or post‑hire completion of an approved Hyperbaric Medicine Introductory course from recognized professional societies. Current healthcare professional certification or license relevant to state practice (e.g., RN, LPN, LVN, RRT, EMT, etc.) maintained throughout employment. Two or more years’ experience in healthcare preferred; prior wound or critical care experience preferred; prior supervisory experience preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification. Troubleshooting skills for hyperbaric equipment and related systems. Attention to detail and ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Basic math skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Organization, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills. Customer service and patient‑relaxation skills. Physical Demands Stationary position for extended periods (4+ hours). Keying frequently on a computer. Lifting/moving items up to 75 pounds with equipment assistance. Pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, and reaching/grasping with hands. Movement to maintain close, distance, and peripheral vision. Detection of sounds by ear. Work Environment Primarily indoors patient‑care environment. Exposure to hazards such as blood‑borne pathogens, toxic chemicals, flammable gases, mechanical equipment, moving objects, and electrical current.
