Construction Safety Specialist (EHS)

STRUCTURAL is the open-shop contracting business line of Structural Group. We are seeking a motivated Safety Specialist to support and promote a strong safety culture across our projects. This role is ideal for early-career safety professionals looking to grow within construction and industrial environments while making a direct impact on jobsite safety and compliance. Key Responsibilities Assisting in the development of procedures for safety standards and best practices in a team environment through frequent interaction and open communication with managers, employees, subcontractors, and clients. Conducting and coordinating worker safety training in areas such as safety standards and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment for new and current employees. Ensuring compliance with SPS, OSHA, customer, state, and local regulations; and supporting safety efforts to continuously improve overall site safety culture. Working under the supervision of the Safety Manager to conduct testing of air quality, noise, temperature, etc. to verify compliance with health and safety regulations. Inspect work sites to ensure working conditions comply with OSHA, NY DOB, and company policies. Conducting risk assessments related to jobs performed by employees and suggesting risk mitigation strategies. Conduct respirator fit testing and maintain appropriate records. Participate in Frontline safety program (weekly update calls, observation reports, and other proactive safety tactics). Participate in project planning discussions with emphasis on high-risk projects and high-risk or repetitive work tasks. Conduct interactive training to help field personnel acquire necessary skills/knowledge/certifications. Conduct all accident, incident and near-miss investigations. Work with jobsite personnel and project teams to perform root-cause analyses, evaluate information, and implement corrective solutions. Maintain records and develop reports on new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness; prepares statistical reports as required. Manage/ Facilitate Branch safety initiatives. Perform other duties, as assigned, in support of the EHS Strategic Plan. Qualifications Degree in EHS, Safety, Emergency Response, or related field (or equivalent experience). 1-3 years of related safety experience in construction or industrial environments. OSHA 30 certification (or ability to obtain). Additional certifications such as First Aid/CPR/AED, Confined Space, or Fall Protection are a plus. Previous field construction experience. Core Competencies Strong understanding of construction safety standards and regulatory requirements. Ability to communicate effectively with field teams and leadership. Knowledge of hazard recognition and risk mitigation practices. Basic understanding of structural systems and construction methods. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management tools (e.g., Procore, SharePoint). Strong organizational and documentation skills. Why Join Us?
