Test Engineer – Materials / Plastics Lab

Overview

We are seeking a Test Engineer to join our fast-paced Materials / Plastics Engineering Lab . This role is responsible for developing test methods, designing test equipment, analyzing data, and supporting lab operations in accordance with industry standards (ISO, ASTM, NSF).

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on testing, problem-solving, and working closely with lab technicians and equipment .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test methods, protocols, and standards-based testing
• Interpret product/material standards and define pass/fail criteria
• Perform engineering analysis of test data and product failures
• Design, build, and improve test equipment and lab systems
• Conduct statistical analysis and generate technical reports
• Support and collaborate with lab technicians on test setup and execution
• Lead and support ISO 17025 audits (internal & external)
• Investigate test failures, equipment issues, and process improvements
• Oversee installation, calibration, and maintenance of lab equipment
• Manage projects across lab teams and external test sites
• Maintain and improve test databases and data systems (LIMS or similar)
• Travel up to 10% for client support, audits, or witness testing

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering , or related field
• Minimum 6+ months of laboratory/testing experience (mechanical or structural testing preferred)
• Experience working with test standards, SOPs, and data analysis
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and project coordination skills
• Knowledge of QA/QC processes and lab procedures
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Strong communication skills (written & verbal)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ISO, ASTM, or NSF standards
• Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as:
• • Instron / Tinius Olsen Load Frames
  • Melt Flow Indexers, DSC (Perkin Elmer)
• Experience with LIMS, LabVIEW, or PLC systems
• Knowledge of plastics/material behavior and molding processes
• Experience with equipment troubleshooting, calibration, and repair
• Familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics, or fabrication of test fixtures
• Master’s degree in Engineering (preferred)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Fast-paced, production-style laboratory environment
• Combination of hands-on lab work and data analysis/reporting
• Occasional travel (~10%)
